After reading the ENTIRE thread, THE blower thread. I still haven't come up with an idea of the best way to go when tuning the vehicle. I have basic tuning skills and would like to know if utilizing the X5 MAF housing and scaling the MAF would indeed fix the lean issues. I want to run an HPS gen2 setup without an FMU. Bigger pump and injectors. but im not sure after reading that thread if I need to do all of that. can anyone help point me in the right direction?

To correct a lean condition we analyze map and fuel system capabilities,
Whichever is lacking we improve, All mods will need some kind of tweaking.

The Dyno is our friend here, Once you have reached the mechanical limitations of the engine start un tuning.

If your going to increase the TB cfm and the proper MAF is plug n play then go for it.

I can't tell you specifics but it is always better to have a proper fuel pump, injectors with headroom, aftermarket fuel pressure regulator and use a standalone ecu or a good piggy back that has a map sensor and ignition timing control rather than just fuel. Of course finding a system like this for the Mercedes is not easy. Fuel management boxes can work but in my unprofessional opinion they are not a good way to go. To me maf scaling sounds like a recipe for a blown engine but i realise it is used very frequently.

Thank you. I've heard of people scaling the maf and being successful. I'm looking for the easiest route to tune the car. Can anyone chime in that has the fmu setup?
