Fair Price for this Car?

Hi CLK Gurus,

I am currently AMG-less, but looking to correct that situation. I have had several w211 E55 cars in the past - both sedan and wagon. Am looking at a cabriolet this time.

This car is available at my local MB dealer: http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-s...88901745&Log=0

I haven't been to see it yet, but it seems likely to be a nice example. It was sold and serviced at this same dealer from new. One local owner. No accidents or other issues showing on the carfax. And 30K miles.

So assuming it checks out in terms of condition, drives well, and is reasonably up to date on maintenance, what would represent a fair price? The dealer has had it listed since Dec. 11th, so it hasn't sold in 30+ days on the market. I realize the usual black books aren't very good for low volume specialty cars like this. But for reference, KBB and NADA say 24-25, Edmunds a bit lower (as usual).

Lastly, are there any gotcha problem areas to be aware of on the 209 chassis? I know the 211 cars reasonably well, but haven't found much info on the 209. I could like owning a car that does not have airmatic suspension and SBC brakes.

Regards,

-Shadow5501

I've had several of these cars both AMG and 500's and the only problem I've had is with the command unit. Specifically the amp for the radio. Otherwise with normal service they are nice cars. I've never seen that car so I guess it would depend on condition, etc. For comparison, there is another black one on Auto Trader near me with 45K that is really nice and the used car dealer told me he would take $20,000. Also, I just bought a CLK 63, with 29,000 miles and every option for $25,000.

Thanks for your input. You got a heckuva deal on that CLK63. I took a quick look through autotrader and there are several '07 63s which carry no price premium over equivalent mile '05/'06 55 cars.

Sounds like $23K would be an OK price for the car I referenced, and anything lower would be a reasonable deal.

There is a red 07 clk63 locally advertised for 24,xxx. I think it has 6x,xxx something miles. I would have snapped it up, but I don't like convertibles.

Both are great cars. My only worry with the 63 is the dreaded deadbolt issue, but the Benz dealer pressure tested it prior to purchase.

The price is fair, but if I were looking for cab, I would buy this gentleman's.

https://mbworld.org/forums/mercedes-...900-miles.html

Only 4,900 miles, he is also on this forum. I would definitely throw him an offer.

The headbolt issue on the 63 scares the jeepers out of me.

Thanks. I looked at the local car last week. As you might expect, it is all but indistinguishable from showroom new. However, I didnt even drive it. I did not realize how small is the trunk of the cabriolet. It's a complete non-starter for me.

Thanks for all your help and input.

I'd try to knock it to 25k out the door, but Ya it's a fair price.
