Front license plate holders

Has anyone ever tried one of these?

I have to have a front plate in TX to pass inspection and don't want to drill the bumper. I might move back to CA and they don't seem to care.

Just ordered this so we will see how it works out.

There are ones that screw into the tow hook location. They look clean and can easy be taken off. your car needs to have the removable tow hook that screws in.

I looked into those but A. I really don't like the plate off to the side. B. I have parktronics and it will cover the sensor. C. I don't like the look of it sticking out nearly an inch from the bumper.

I saw this done on a BMW site and the guy attached it to the grill so no holes have to be drilled at all. I was thinking about getting a backer plate and attacking it to the mesh under the bumper. Also I was going to put some kind of pad behind it so it wont scratch the paint. I also looked it to the ones you can hide but they look a little cheap and I wasn't fond of the mounting options.

Hey that sounds like a great idea. I assumed you wanted something temporary just for inspection. Just make sure you are not blocking off any cooling vents. keep in mind the heat during the summer and that a plate covering a radiator will have a big effect.

I live in TX and have never run a front plate, didn't realize it was part of the inspection. If you really want to run one use 3m automotive double sided tape. believe it or not, it works great. Did that on all my cars in NZ and they never came off.

I got the idea from this thread http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=374893

I plan to keep it on while I'm here. No reason to get pulled over for this. In Sacramento CA they didn't seem to care. The only time you would get one is if the you made the cop mad and they were looking for something to ticket you for. I guess here in Austin it brings in a lot of revenue because they site a lot of people. That being said our CA registered car just passed inspection yesterday with no front plate.
