I'll know more tomorrow but I'm looking into the worst case scenario. Has anybody replaced just the pump and not the whole $1k assembly? Or ever installed an aftermarket pump? Any info is much appreciated.

Yes you can drop a walbro pump in ($100). People have done it many times with the C32 and CLK55 that I am aware of. I would guess it should work fine with a stock setup as the stock fuel pressure regulator should keep the fuel flow the same.

That is good news! I've installed a walbro 255l, I think it was called, in my old civic in my tuner days.

Is there a specific universal kit (as there are a few) that I would need. Does the pump sit vertical and the sock sit horizontal?

The pump sits verticle, it goes in the way the stock one comes out. It is thinner than stock. I cut the grommet holding inbthe stock pump and clamped it around the walbro and sat it in exactly as stock.

It was a pretty easy install, the only pain was getting it all back in the tank. $65 for a walbro shipped to my door, I can't believe they wanted $1,200 for a stock assembly. They probably make $1,100 of every one they sell.

Its nice saving heaps of money for an easy fix. Are the electrical connections plug and play or do you have to splice the 12+ and ground? Also which walbro did you go for? I know they have a few different kits.

I went with the 255lph universal kit, you have to splice two wires.

CLK55 AMG
Hi all
I have had similar issues with my CLK55 fuel pump being unreliable - the connections on the top of the pump are showing signs of age and heat - I am advised that the pump if on its way out and needs replacing. I'm planning on the walbro 255lph replacement rather than OEM. But...
On the Walbro site they quote $400 for the kit...
http://walbrofuelpumps.com/mercedes-...-cyl-5-5l.html
While others quote ~$100.
...But Walbro say they are not undersold and warn of fakes.
...So how do I know I'm getting a genuine part rather than a cheap knock-off? Can anyone who has fitted this to a CLK55 price a link/company name of where I can source the pump and fitting kit from please?
Thanks,
Roy.

CLK55 AMG
Hi all

So I have now got the correct 255lph Walbro pump for my 2002 CLK55 but when trying to fit it my specialist told me that there were twin fuel pumps in there not a single one like the Walbro. We are thinking that maybe the UK/Euro-spec CLK55 has a different setup to the US ones mentioned in these threads? Can anyone shed any light on this for me please?

Thanks,
Roy.
