W208 CLK55 Purchase Advice

I have been an avid Benz driver for almost 20 years and am looking to get back into one my favorites. Given that these vehicles are a "little older" (not unlike myself), what are some of the major service items / areas of concern I should look out for during my search and inspection of any potentials?

I apologize in advance if this is a topic previously discussed ... if so, any links to prior threads would be appreciated!!

lol...depends on your definition of "a little older" as I'd like to think that we know what we're doing now, more than before.
I've owned my 2006 CLK55 cab for 4+ yrs now - bot it four years ago w/ 82k miles and currently has 98k miles. A few little things aren't working perfectly, but it is still my favorite car to drive(vs. Porsche C4S, 07 E63, and 13 GL450) as it has the best combination of speed, comfort, handling, and looks. The only car that i might consider is a 2007 CLK63 cab, but those are harder to find - and the good ones are 2-3x the price of my 06...and not worth it, imho.
So to answer your question, i've had great luck on car w/ just oil change and simple services. The only money that I've spent extra are rear rotors/pads(expensive parts unless you buy online and go to indy). The two parts that are not working for me are the driver seat pump $400 and the keyless go door handles and keyless ignition(both are not worth the money to fix for me).
Bottom line, my car is probably worth $13k-ish and I'm loving the car, but not willing to pay $3k+ for minor items that I don't use.
P.S. I'd stay w/ the 2005+ as they have much better brakes.

He is asking about the w208 not the w209 (yours).
Its a wonderful car. just look for one with a good service history.

Usually pretty solid cars. Obviously you will want to know the history on any used car you purchase. For the most part, normal 13+ year old car things will need looking after.

Honestly brake rotors are probably the most expensive general maintenance item on the 208. Some other non AMG W208 issues like seat motors, top issues (if buying a convertible), dead dash pixels, gunked up trunk and door lock tumblers, blower motor regulators, cps, TPS. Stuff like this is covered in depth in w208 forum.
Good luck with your search if you decide to go this route.

Do a search for user MarcusF. He has posted links to his excellent website covering much of the information you need.
