Maybe a strange question, but how and why is it there? The car is designed for autobahn. If it were a Jeep designed for off the road mud driving, I could see the need. But how many time do you get slashed with enough mud to totally obscure the headlights? Is there a need? Maybe to impress girls....

It's not just mud, the headlight washers use heated water from the windshield washer reservoir and very high pressure to clean off ice, snow road grim, bugs, whatever might be obstructing the lights or reducing visibility.
