Buying a clk55 (w208) what should be my weapon of choice.

Hello guys,

This week my C36 is being sold. After some thinking about what MB car I really would like to drive next the Clk55 got into my mind. Always wondered how it would be to drive the CLK55 and how it is for performance. After some reading on the forum I decided the W208 is more of a performance car, and suits me more. Acceleration in 5sec to 60 seems awsome to me for an autobahn cruiser!

Now I have found two clean ones that have my interest. One is a 99 with beautifull carlsson wheels. The other in the same colour is a 2000. Both are in similair condition and appear to be a good choice. Now comes the question, is there any reason not to buy a 99 instead of a 00? Differences I noticed is the lack of tiptronic and the MB command system. I assume I should go for the 00? although I really like the stance and wheels of the other one. Does the tiptronic add up to the drives experience?

thanks in advance

CLK Cabrio
2000 has updated cluster, electronics, transmission. I would go with the 2000 hands down.

Definitely the newer model. Plenty of upgrades and negotiate the price a little bit and use the money to buy some wheels. Goodluck

Thanks guys for the advice, but can we go a little bit further in detail? It is the exact same transmission just with tip tronic right? most of the updates are just luxury right?

So whenever the hp was bumped to 362(02? Maybe 03?) is my opinion.

i had a 99 clk and it had the ugly impact strips on the sides, no tip tronic, and no light on side mirrors..other small features as well...98 and 99 were "ugly" years imo

There is a post by MarcusF that I read a while ago- have a search. He goes into a LOT of detail on the changes to the electronics and all aspects of the W208 CLK55 over those few years.
