208 CLK55 brake/idle problems

My 2000 CLK55 is having strange issues but no codes appear.

The brake pedal becomes stiff and there is no power assistance.
When this happens, the engine will rock the whole car at a standstill.
The car sometimes will fix itself after a long period of standing on the brakes.
Or the next time I start it up, it is fine.

These conditions occur intermitently.

There is no loss of engine power, no smoke from the exhaust, no oil on the coils. I can hear a slight noise from the cats which disappears above 1500 rpm.

Any ideas?

sounds like the brake booster is bad or the check valve on the vacuum pipe is leaking.

The pipe is notorious for leaking on the engine side which causes drive-ability problems.

Check both
