This makes perfect sense to me... Plenty of power on tap, and nothing beats a nice quiet car with plenty of power. Also, police are going to notice an AMG car compared to a stock Corolla any day of the week, so even if you're moving at the same speed as the soccer mom in the Toyota, you're getting pulled over.

Even more so.. they note the CLK as a convertible in that article. While it does come as one.. I do not believe there is an AMG convertible currently is there?

My guess is that they meant a CLK63 Convertible, since the only coupe available in the US was the Black Series

Wow.. I did not realize that they came in topless format... I just did a quick search..
According to Motortrend
CLK63 AMG Convertible $48,682
6.2L 475hp
12 city, 18 hwy
Convertible
CLK63 AMG Coupe
$93,736
6.2L 475hp
12 city, 18 hwy
Coupe
Why the huge price discrepancy (that was back in 2009 I am guessing)

2008 MBZ CLK63 AMG Black Series
First of all, they used the wrong photo with that caption. That is clearly a Black Series, not a CLK63 convertible.
Secondly, they would have no such statistics on a Black Series since they would have a hard time finding the 350 people in the US who own one and even harder time finding a police department who even knows what a Black Series is enough to write it on the ticket.
Yes, they used to make a CLK63 convertible, and yes the $48k MSRP from Motortrend is wrong.
And they compared 3 Mercedes to 9 crappy everyday cars, most of which are driven by younger drivers, who by statistics tend to drive faster than other people.
So, interesting read for the fun of it, but their stats are all wrong.
A better study would have been to compare 12 luxury vehicles over $75,000 and see which ones are ticketed most often...
