New CLS 550 4matic Owner

Hi all, moving over from the E55 forum to here, got rid of the E55 to get the CLS550 4matic in diamond white with a black interior. Had to get rid of the E since it wasnt the best car to drive in the winter. I must say, i do miss the power from the 5.5 supercharged V8, but the new 4.6TT in this CLS is no joke my friends. A few car magazines tested the 60 time on this car to 4.2 4.3 ish seconds. I love the engine, and the noise is pleasing as well. i cannot get enough from the look of the car, its beautiful!! I constantly see people, even in their mercedes, just staring at the car. idk if its the LED lights or what. But overall i love the car. Im looking to possibly tune the engine at some point, but i heard theres not a lot out there yet due to the new engine. heres some photos, enjoy guys!! Thought i would share this, saw this in the downstairs showroom in my dealership. SLS AMG, E63 Biturbo Wagon with perfomance package, and in the back corner is James Harrison's S65 AMG

Congratulations! It looks like everyone has got the right idea re: window tinting. And agree that 4matic on the new CLS gives ample power. Just found out that my OE Tuning ECU generates about the same Hp as a stock 55 AMG (according to Jeremy at OE).

man i cant wait to see what a tune will do, ive already seen a couple of examples on the 63 and the results are unreal. I usually find myself driving in E mode most of the time, when i get on the highway ill throw it in sport or manual. when im really driving it i like manual because i feel like i get the most power out of the car. I use S mode a good amount too, and ill use the paddles in that, i like that because it will hold your gear, how do you find yourself driving?

I'm usually in E as well. Would love to have the AMG, but I really would not know what to do with all that power, except for accumulating tickets. With that said, I'll prob end up with an amg down the road.

I can't want to see some folks here tune their 4MATICs. The increased power with the AWD traction would be a great combo...

TTAC got a 1/4 mile time of 12.7 from the CLS550 4MATIC, which is about 0.1 seconds quicker than most published times for the RWD. BMWs most recent x-drive V8s have been shaving 0.2 or 0.3 seconds off the 0-60 time when c/w their non x-drive equivalents as well -- I'd love to see a side-by-side comparison with the RWD vs AWD CLS.

I drive like a grandma most of the time. Coasting to stop lights, taking off slow and steady, and maximizing fuel efficiency on the highway. BUT, there are times when you just have to pull away from the occasional, buble bee yellow Nissan Z, tailing you on the on-ramp. Ha ha. The ECU arrived last night. I am in CA this week and not back in CT till next Monday. Will report out after install and a few miles of acclimating the engine.

Love your car!

Our '12 E550 Coupe has the same engine (M278) as the CLS550. And the stock power is surprising.

RENNtech has a great tune for it:530 HP and 606 lb/ft of torque at the crank!

The stock M278 dyno'd way above the MBZ stock rating, but then their tune takes it to a new level! Note the chart shows power at the wheels.

ahahhaha hey ohji, ive seen a launch edition CLS running around in my area, about the only other one ive seen, and it looks gorgeous!! i love the rims and the color is perfect, if i got an AMG it would be in that color, and if it wasnt available id go to white again. what color interior did you get???? youll have to post pictures when you get it!


i usually drive in E alot of the time as well, because when you really drive the car, the fuel economy is no better than my old E55, so i try to behave myself 95% of the time

Man i havent even seen the 2012 E550 coupe, that has to be a monster!!! me and my dad drove one about a year and half ago, actually the exact one that was in sex and city 2 hahah, anyway it was with the old 550 engine and that was a fun car to drive! so i cant even imagine it with turbos in it, let me know when you tune that thing! and post pictures of your car id love to see it. i would love an E550 coupe if they made it in AWD

theres nothing like it! i dont like the A7 at all i think the back is ugly, and the bmw 6 series gc just doesnt do it for me, the styling isnt there, doesnt look as agressive as the cls, the interior is nice, but i dont like the point of having a fifth seatbelt. the car looks like a normal sedan, rather than having a low roofline like the CLS. And i heard that the gc is going to be more expensive.

I'll definitely post pics!

And the launch edition comes with a porcelain/black two tone interior that looks very nice, but it will be tough to keep clean.

in my opinion that is the best interior, i wish i could get that porcelain/black with a white car. we drove a launch edition back in the spring and that interior was beautiful, youll love it. youll find that youll have the only launch edition probably in your area. ive only seen one in my area, and in fact its the only other 2012 CLS that ive seen multiple times, other than a silver one that i saw once.

Im not sure exactly what it is, it was from the factory, if i had to guess id say 35%, on my previous e55 i had 25% which was way darker than the cls, if i had to change it i would go darker! hope this helps

Picking up my 2013 CLS550 4matic day after tomorrow (Wednesday) -- got it with the 18" AMG all season's but have the 19" Mercedes "twist" wheels on order to run spring - fall. I had the dealer tint all 4 side windows 35% and the rear 20% to make the sides look just a bit darker - but with the light coming through the windshield hitting the rear window - they should all look so similar in darkness you wont be able to tell the difference in %'s -- at least this was the tint guy's recommendation - as I didnt want as dark as 20 but not quite as light as 35 -- we'll see...Cant wait to pick it up...
