I thought the mounts were different and as a result there are some gaps after mounting? I don't think it's a perfect fit ...I remember a member on here had done it. Tasho3 - have you done it?

Hi,

I can confirm that I have done it. I swapped the existing four bar grille for the 6.3 AMG two bar grille. Although, I played around with it to make the lower part of the grille bolt on to the bumper. As you already know that Mercedes changed the W219 bumper during the minor cosmetic facelift in 2009 and therefore made it a herculean task to adapt the two bar grille to the former AMG bumper.

The crux of the matter is that I have successfully done it and the new grille has enormously enhanced the look of my already dated vehicle. It is a genuine Mercedes part and cost me in the region of £480 GBP including VAT. You can get a one bar grille from ebay for less but I did not want to go that root as I feel that the one bar grille made the front end empty unless you added a front spoiler to add extra volume to the front end of the vehicle. Here are few pictures of my car's front end before and after and how the new grille fits. Hope this helps !

Regards !

Car looks great, I wanna do the BBK upgrade to my car as well. The stock brakes can't handle the weight of these cars.

I bought the discs, pads, bolts and AMG calipers from a fellow in Germany and paid in the region of €2,100 including overnight DHL freight to the United Kingdom. The weight of this thing is almost the weight of a small Nissan Micra LOL. The pads were almost brand new and came off a fairly used CLS 55 AMG that had only done 8,000 km since new.

Thanks for the compliment. I would say, go for it if you find a good one at a right price. The stopping power of thing is impregnable but on average, my old brakes were very very good and seemed to stop with poise, accuracy and where necessary. To be honest, I did the AMG brake upgrade purely for aesthetic purposes as I preferred the shape of the car with the large AMG calipers. Apart from this, my old brakes did the work just fine.

To me seems the brakes can't cope with the cars weight at all under aggressive driving. Or it could be cause I was used to the SLK55 which weights a lot less and has the AMG BBK.

Does your car have distronic or is it just the grill? I have Distronic on my car and I love it.

My car came with single and I switched it to a 3 slat. don't like the single fin on this car at all. It emphasises the gaps where the hood meets the bumper too much and the curve of it doesn't flow with the car.

I have the single slat laying around my garage, if anybody wants it, just pay me for shipping and you can have it.

I have the Distronic option and I think it makes the grille look even better. I don't think I can own any model of Merc without the distronic. It is an option that is worth every penny !

I can't agree more with your opinion regarding the one fin grille on the W219. I believe it does not flow with the concept of this car. This is the reason Merc did not offer this design for the facelift version of the W219 in 2009 rather they offered two fin grille which I believe flows more with the curvy design of the W219. Mercedes deliberately waited for the second generation W218 to have the one fin grille with a more aggressive front bumper and all that irresistible LEDs all over it.

Mcobinad - great mods, I like the 2 fin grille on your black CLS....the only thing I don't like is the fitment where the bottom of the grille meets the bumper, looks like there is a gap? I think as long as the owner is ok with the slight gap as a trade off for the look of the 2 fin grille then the mod is a win

Single slat

Do you still have it? I'd gladly pay the shipping...

Thanks,

Jeff
