Crank no start issue.

Im new to the site and I have been checking around about my issue. I changed the crank shaft sensor I burned out the starter constantly cranking the car so it was replaced today as well. I had the fuel pump checked no problems, battery is fine and terminals cleaned. I had the car starting with no problem today. I went back to the garage about two hours later. Problem is happening again. Can somebody please help me?

Check my post below:

https://mbworld.org/forums/w219/5434...on-sensor.html

The 2007 CLS ME has problem on some of the them. It has a 8 year warranty on it so take it in right away and ask the SA if you are still covered. The shop foreman taught me something useful. When the car is not starting have someone tap on the ME, which is the silver thing on top of the engine, that's your ME (Engine ECU) while you start the car. Again, take it to the dealer right away as you might still be covered!! If not my dealer quoted me $2,400.... Good luck.

Forgot to mention, what you are experiencing is exactly like my problem. The reason you left it sitting there for 2 hrs and the problem came back might be because of the ME is getting too hot when the car is driven and parked, so the heat is causing the ME to not send signal to the fuel pump. Solution, lift the engine cover open for a while for the temperature to cool down then start the car. Make sure you drive the car for a while and head straight to the dealer and park it close to their tech. entrance and ask them to start the car after letting it sit for 1-2 hrs. as they would have to see the problem for themselves and push the car in and test the ME signal WHEN it is happening.

2000 S430, 2000 S500 Both Brilliant Silver!
Why on earth would they think it be a good idea top put the ECU atop the engine?!

No idea but may be under normal circumstances it is supposed to function normally at the location? I was told only certain yrs. of the CLS have defective ECUs.

Ok so I took it to the dealer they didnt find a problem with the car but it did it again when I left. But I noticed something and wonder if this makes sense. I recieved a new work ID with a chip in it and the car started doing this right after I recieved it. I left the ID upstairs in my office the car started up I came out later placed the ID on the passenger seat crank no start. I went up stairs and left the ID upstairs car starts no problem. I looking puzzled like wtf. So I come downstairs my co worker has on his ID crank no start. He gets out car starts no problem I'm wondering could that be the problem?

May be it is interfering with your key? You have Keyless Go right? If you do then try it with keyless and if it doesn't start try sticking the key in to start. You can also go to the dealer and try any 2007 CLS in their lot with keyless go and see what happens (With your ID). When you are at the dealer ask them when you car was first delivered and you have 8 yrs from the date just in case is your ME.

Ok my mechanic came up to my job today and put a code reader on it cause he was curious about the card reader issue I was speaking of.
I got camshaft code and a misfire in valve one and a low voltage code on the ignition switch. He said the camshaft and misfire code wouldn't cause the car to not start but he will check the ignition issue tomorrow. He thinks the ECM maybe the problem so I call Mercedes and they stated that the ECM is covered 80k miles or 8yrs and well I'm 719 miles over so it wont be covered. If its the ECM I'm screwed just brought a condo and money is short and can't scrape up 2500 in a day or two pray to God its a relay or something small.

If you are only 719 miles over I would try contacting MBUSA and see if they would do you a huge favor by changing it out for free since they already know there is a problem with the ME on the CLS and you are just slightly over on the mileage. Hopefully it's the relay. Good luck!

So lessons learned use MB parts only. I brought my crankshaft position sensor from advanced auto parts and should have just waited and brought from MB. My uncle updated his scan tool and a code for skipped timing belt tooth and cylinder one misfire came up and he said that is definitely your crank position sensor. Purchased the MB sensor and the problems gone....but now I'm scared of the ecu getting hot like what was posted I wonder should I wrap it in a heat shield?

Always get them from the dealer if the price is not outrageous!! The relay is just $20 and CPS was about $60 if I remember correctly. 2 mechanics looked at my car when I was first having the problem and I told them I bought the sensor myself then the next qt. was "It is aftermarket or from the dealer" Yup, aftermarket sensors are not reliable....

I have never heard of wrapping the ECU with anything but I could be wrong. Not all CLS have defective ECU's so just keep your fingers crossed you have a good one.

Stupid mechanic didn't snap the cable in place car works perfect now thank God. I could have ended up paying 2500 dollars for nothing.

The crank shaft sensor cable was not fully connected.....I wound up having to buy a ECU. There is a problem with grounding with this model vehicle ECU and Im told it affects 2005 thru 2009 cls and E350 vehicles. If you end up with this issue on any of these model year vehicles and the crank shaft sensor does not elevate the problem I'm 99% sure its your ECU and it will need to be replaced....also another issue is the thermostat and fuel pump motor. Besides that the car has no real issues. But I'm getting a Bentley this summer so I could care less about this car anymore I might garage it and give it to my daughter when she turns 16.
