New (to me) CLS500 idle issue and cutting out
Just bought a CLS500 its a 2005 model with 42k miles on.
Lovely drive on the test drive but since buying it I have noticed several times that it can be jerky at low revs with light throttle and when stopped the idle can be rough.
The rough idle also happened in N.
Then today when coming to a stop the engine cut out entirely.
Any idea what the cause might be? I'm not seeing a CEL or any other warnings on the dashboard.

I stripped the airbox back and pulled the MAF out yesterday.
I found that one of the filter housings hadn't been screwed on properly allowing unfiltered air down the inlet. I also found a load of little seeds or something from trees on the mesh on the intake side of the MAF so no doubt its contaminated.
I blew it all out with the compressor and refitted everything. Assuming the worst I have ordered a new MAF but typically it hasn't had the problem since...
Thanks for the advice, I was leaning towards that anyway having had a car with MAF issues before.

The airbox is built into the plastic cover on the engine, check youtube for a video but basically its just pulling back the 2 air intake pipes then the front piece pulls up and forward then the main part pulls up and off, its all just clipped in, the MAF sensor is then right at the back, the airbox sits right on it. the 2 air filters are in screwed down compartments either side of the cover.
This is a vid for a v6 but the procedure is very similar:

So I've just done the same on mine now. Was very surprised how clean it was. Air filters were changed about 11 months ago and still look clean. We have a tree that covers everything in small seeds and I was convinced this was going to be the issue but no sign of them in the air filter or housing.
Will take the car out later to see if the issue still persists but I expect it will as technically I haven't fixed anything.
