ecu
Hello. I have a 2008 w219 cls 500 with 65k miles, 1 past owner. Nice car but having problems now. I brought the car over from UK to Greece and it has had intermitent issues with starting. It turns but doesnt run/start or cuts out a few seconds later. I took to a specialist I trust and he advised battery and fuel pumps (both sides) were bad and as a precaution we changed the crank sensor as well. However now it gets technical. It still wont start every time and he now believes the issue to be the ECU or SAM or both. Has anyone else had a similar experience? He is checking ECU prices and if this needs replacing he assures me an aftermarket one is ok with the correct programming, does anyone have experience on fitting a new ECU on this engine?
Any advice welcome. I think this is going to be an expensive one. Also this is the second CLS 500 i've had which had electrical problems not good Mercedes!
Thanks

Update: Well the mechanic came back and advised I need to try to have the ECU reprogrammed. He is sending it to a specialist (ex mercedes computer guy) who will reprogram and fix if possible but he said there is no warranty for the work done. Its a 400 euro risk but cheaper than the alternative 2-3k for a new one I guess.

3200 euros for a new ECU. I guess it may not have needed a new one but Mercedes want to make money rather than fix things so I dont have a choice here in Greece.
