Question How can I confirm a CLS350 Grand Edition is genuine?

I have bought a beautiful car in excellent condition and I am very happy with it. However the sales guy made a big point on the fact it was the more powerful Grand Edition model and why it was worth a little extra. It has Grand Edition on the side but doesn't feel any different (faster <g>) to the other CLS models I test drove.

It has the badging and the AMG alloys, even an AMG badge on the rear, but is there a way to check anything under the bonnet to confirm it is what it claims to be?

Appreciate any advice.

It is possible to check it by VIN code.

Thank you for your reply. I tried a Mercedes online VIN tool, but it didn't seem to give anything other than basic model info and components. There was nothing specific about whether it had engine upgrades. Is it safe to post a vin here?

I am not sure that VIN decoder will give you detailed information about engine power but there will be some model code for grand edition. I am using this VIN decoder:

http://carinfo.kiev.ua/cars/vin/mercedes

And about the power, I dont think that you will feel the difference in normal traffic. Last week I drove new BMW X5 30d in the morning and than X5 40d in the afternoon and I didnt feel any difference.

Thanks Konigstiger, yes I have the AMG alloys with the bigger tyres on the rear and the floor mats, but I was wanting to check on the brabus engine upgrade.

My concern is the Grand Edition was 560 units produced in 2009, yet my VIN says my car is 2010, so I was thinking it has been made to look like the earlier Grand Edition version. As I say though it is an immaculate 2010 car with only 23,000km (14000 miles) so I am very happy even if it lacks the Brabus upgrade.

Not sure if it's like that on UK, but at Portugal (where I live) the car power is on the vehicle documents.

anyway...I would say that yours is grand edition. It have everything that grand Edition have, and if you look closer, I think also the headlights have a different colour, they are silver, not chrome like normal w219's...and that is a difficult thing to "replicate".

Very good points - thank you. I will accept it face value and just enjoy driving it. After 6 years it still has a new car feel, and I am not sure anyone has ever sat in the back looking at the condition.

Thank you everyone for taking the time to reply to a newbie.
