Does the timing chain in E320 CDI need to be replaced?

I couldn't find an answer in the manual. I have a 2005 CDI. Thanks.

There is no time or mileage interval. You'll have to measure its elongation and change it when it needs to be changed.

Using synthetic oil, you're probably a decade off from needing a new chain.

Thanks. I do, of course, use synthetic oil, though I'm not sure why the synthetic would help with chain stretching!

Better lubrication of all parts, especially the camshaft, reduced friction and therefore drag on the chain.

In addition to all that, it clings to metal surfaces longer and doesn't turn to sludge.
