2008 GL320 CDI CEL P0670
(Cross posted from X164 forum, Hope that is OK
I found these descriptions:
- P0670 states there is a problem with the glow plug control module or glow plug(s)
- P0670 Glow Plug Mod Control Circuit
- Standard DTCs (ISO 15031-6/SAE J2012): Glow Plug Control Module Control Circuit/Open
- P0670 states there is a problem with the glow plug control module or glow plug(s)
- P0670 Glow Plug Mod Control Circuit
- Standard DTCs (ISO 15031-6/SAE J2012): Glow Plug Control Module Control Circuit/Open
Some say it has to be the module, and others say it could be one or more glow plugs.
Does the MB ODB port give specific glow plug failure codes? If it does, and I am not getting any, would this not point to the module?
The car starts OK (new to me, and it has been very cold, so I don't know exactly what "normal" starts are like.)
Thoughts anyone?

P0671 through P0676 for glow plugs 1 through 6 (assuming a 6-Cyl engine)
Does MB report these errors on ODB or just hide them behind P0670?

Well you will learn soon enough, when your battery is dead tomorrow, then you will know it's the module.(I would disconnect the battery tonight)
MB doesn't hide anything, the ECU has stored both OBD and MB fault codes, some are exactly the same others are different. It all depends on who's software is looking at what!!

I think the reader just requests all stored error codes.
If it stored a P0670, it should be just as reliable at reading a P067x
It does a minor interpretation in the box to give you a line of text, but the code is what I am concerned with.
As for the battery, so far the car has been starting fine even in this cold weather. Not sure but I read somewhere that the controller just applies a fixed time to the glow plugs when it fails instead of a variable time based on temp.
New controller is on the way, as is a star socket needed to change it.
Wife only grimaced slightly as to needing to buy a part for a "almost perfect" new/used car.

They did ask for you VIN right----- as there are two controllers in EPC 642 900 28 00 and 642 900 27 00.
You are lucky on the battery many times the controller fails closed and continue to draw and then oooops. Good Luck

Yep, they asked for the VIN.
Ended up with OE Discountparts, since the other places added too much in shipping and handling.
It looks like they all use the same back-end software to run their web sites.
