2006 E320 CDI - What just happened?
This morning, after driving about 3 miles, my 2006 E320 CDI stopped responding to its "gas" pedal and would not accelerate. No check engine light. We shuffled along at about 25 mph until I found a place to pull over. I shut it down, popped the hood, saw nothing, fired it back up, drove away and all was back to normal. Sill no check engine light. I drove home without incident and to work and back without incident. In a call to my mechanic, he said diesels are about fuel and air. The air filter was recently replaced and he said that if a fuel filer is clogged, it's clogged. Also, turning the car on and off would not "fix" an air filter or fuel filter. So, what happened this morning? Any BTDTs? BTW, my CDI has about 86,000 miles and it's been well maintained. Thanks in advance for your collective wisdom.

Sounds like your intake manifold shutoff flaps are sticking: https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...i-problem.html

I would say most likely its your EGR valve I have 132k miles and around 80k miles I have had to clean mine every 10k miles or so to keep my power from cutting out. I have not once got a check engine light but if you hook up a code reader you will likely see a code.

MBWorld Fanatic!
I had this problem on my e55. Albeit a different car, it turned out to be the throttle position sensor located on the gas pedal assembly. Randomly, I'd step on the gas and the car would barely move.
Bought a used pedal assembly off of ebay and swapped it out. no problems since.
Food for thought

My O6 E320 CDI had the same problem. disconnected the EGR valve and it has been perfect since. Dealer checked it and never could figure it out -- said it could be a clogged fuel filter. Rather than spend $400+ dollars on a new EGR just let it stay unplugged and ignore the check engine light.

There is a TSB related to performance issues and the EGR on 05 and 06 CDIs. MB of Arlington,Va checked mine before I bought it and said it was fine which was incorrect -- they are the same dealer that checked it when I had the power loss issue. Picked up a tread on BenzWorld recommending disconnecting the EGR and all is well -- and I don't have all the exhaust crud recycling into my intake manifold. Performance is great.
