96-99 E300 weak points...
Forgive me if thread already exists somewhere but I've had a W124 1995 diesel as well as a W123 diesel so I know enough to be dangerous. Always wanted a W211 E class and wanted to know what weak points I should be looking for in a used one. For example my 95 had wiring loom issues, fuel lines that leaked and needed replacing and the blower motor seemed to fail - what issues on these models should I be asking a previous owner about? thanks much

W211 e320 CDI
Forgive my ignorance but isn't that generation W210? I'm interested too, folks basically give those away around here. I looked at one last year offered at $3500 for a "high mileage" car...at 137k I don't really consider it to be high miles?

W211 is 2003 to 2008. I have a 2003 E320 and 2005 CDI. Issues on early 03 and 04 are Valeo radiators that leak glycol into the transmission. Behr is the upgraded model. Airmatics are a problem, but many come without them. EGR is a problem on both vehicles and needs cleaned often (as with any vehicle running EGR).

Forgive me right off the bat - E-class W210 96-99 diesel either non-turbo or turbo-diesel. Just love that E class model and want to know the 2-5 things to check specifically. For example my 95 diesel had the bad wiring harness and typical ac blower motor issue but other than she was a good car. Just like the style of the W210. Anyone have strong thoughts about the turbo-diesel model? Like dont bother all it does is eat 2-3 more mpg's?

The earlier, at least, W210's had rust problems in the rear suspension area.
My W211 was a 2005 and had wiring problems where there was some water exposure (trunk/rear lighting). My German mechanic thought it was from having biodegradable wiring. He said it biodegraded a little too soon!
My car had a new version of the EGR replace the old one and had no problems afterwards for at least 150,000 diesel miles.

MBWorld Fanatic!
One thing to be weary of on the earlier (pre-facelift) 210s is the fact that the A-Pillars collapse in a frontal crash. This was remedied in the facelift, but of course there is no diesel of that era.

Both had the stupid problem of not having a lock up T/C.
Dealer worked on the second (CPO) one for a week and never
did get it to lock up. Without that, you loose F E.
Cannot fault my W-211 CDI. Best diesel MBZ brought to N/A.
