1991 300D SMALL BUT ANNOYING PROBLEM

The rear head restraints on this car are stuck down
When you hit the switch on the dash you hear a small click noise but no action
I beleive there is vaccum involved here ?
Any body have experience and know where and how to look to fix this ?

If you are waiting for the rear headrests to pop up when you push the dash switch, then you are sadly mistaken.

The design calls for the manual lifting of the headrests and with no passanges the up headrests cause a rear view driving issue then with the dash switch(via a vacuum) the R and L headrests are lowered.

Conversely if you are saying the rear R and L headrests are up but do not go down with the dash switch---that is a problem!!

Do you have a problem or not!!!

the restraints can be manually positioned to
be used when there are rear passengers but do not retract into the "out of the way" position when there are no rear passengers. So yes there is a problem.

Well you have a vacuum and or vacuum switch problem--start by removing the back seat and the rear left door panel(see controls)!!!
