Should I buy 1985 300TD?

Hi All,

I looked at an '85 300TD yesterday. I like the car, but wanted to get the opinion of some experts before pulling the trigger.

Here is the listing:
http://santabarbara.craigslist.org/cto/5156711271.html

What I observed:

Good: It started right up, drove smoothly, and handled well. There is no visible rust and the interior is in good condition. New tires, working power windows, and no dents or other apparent body issues.

Bad: The rubber piece on the back bumper fell off and needs to be replaced. The A/C does not work. There is small chip in the windshield from a rock. The paint on the hood, top and trunk has all faded significantly.

I'm thinking I will need to repaint it, switch to a more modern A/C, and replace the back rubber piece of the bumper. The engine seems to be in good shape for a short daily commute, which is what I plan to use it for.

So what do you all think? Is $4500 a reasonable price? Any andy other redflags I should be on the look out for?

It seems a little steep to me. I bought a '87 300D 15 years ago and paid $4400CAD for it and everything worked. It did have some minor rust. Are you planning on doing all the work yourself? I think you can probably find something a lot newer for the same price.
