Advice/Part Needed - 76 300D Fuel Pump

Hi,

My 76 300D has a fuel pump that is non functioning and I am looking at the option of having it rebuilt for $2500-3000 for parts and labor, or having a used one installed for $1000-2000.

Does anyone have any advice on which is a better option - or where I can find a trustworthy used fuel pump for the vehicle?

I am located in Northern California, in the Bay Area.

Best,
Michael

If you're planning on keeping the car for a long time, I would go for the rebuilt. If you think you might get rid of it in a year or two, go for the used.

At any rate, you need to use diesel fuel conditioner in older diesels because the fuel is the only thing that lubricates the fuel pump, and modern ULSD does not have sufficient lubricity.

I recommend Opti-Lube XPD. It has the best lubricating properties of anything on the market and it works out to about $3 to $4 per tank.
