Mercedes diesel in crosshairs after WV, what next?

Why took this long to open this investigation. Shouldn't EPA be testing all diesels once VW anomaly broke out? Hope this doesn't take for ever to resolve. I want to buy diesel car but don't want to be caught up myself in middle of this hoopla. Would you still buy a diesel knowing there is an on going investigation ?

I switched, or should I say, added to my original order of a GLS 350 with a GLS 550. Build for the 550 is early June with expected delivery in early July. The 350 I ordered was built in late March and still is not ready for sale and, likely, won't be ready for who knows how long.
