Intercooler on E320 diesel

2008 E320 Diesel I changed out Turbo and after starting the car, car suddenly went full throttle, friends say that when Turbo failed that oil probably went into the intercooler ? Has anyone have this happen? I am checking to see what is required to remove and clean intercooler?? Any thoughts or help would be appreciated....

sorry this is so long but this is my 1st time for question on forum....

This is diesel topic and should be in diesel section.
It is double post anyway.

It's possible, but it should stop as soon as all the oil is cleared.

Your friend is correct - a turbo failure will dump oil into the intake system. This is why the intercooler and pipes MUST BE CLEANED WHEN REPLACING A TURBOCHARGER. The moment the new turbocharger creates pressure all the residual oil (and probably some shards of metal) will be launched into the running engine.

The engine technically didn't go to full throttle, but the RPMs accelerated because the engine was experiencing a "runaway" condition where the ECM is no longer able to control the RPMs of the engine because the engine is running on some alternative fuel - in this case motor oil.

I am removing the intercooler tonight after work. I was told just to flush it our with a solvent "Simple Green" and water, shake it up really well then let it drain and then flush it again. I wish I would have known that, I didn't know the diesel would run on oil but learning a lot since. I almost put something over the intake of the turbo, glad I didn't, I heard it would have been bad to do. Thanks for the advise...
