I was on the MB USA website today and couldn't find any information about the '17 E Class diesel. After some googling, found that MB isn't going to bring this new E220d into the U.S. in 2017 due to the VW Group diesel scandal. The article on Car and Drivers site said it may come in as an '18. Maybe this is old news but it was new to me. Thanks VW/Audi for royally screwing the pooch on this. My wife has a Toyota Camry hybrid and I'm not sure that hybrids are the long-term answer and I really wanted to try a diesel. Guess I'll have to look into a '16 E250 or take a chance and wait and hope MB doesn't stop selling diesels in the U.S. market altogether.

But look at it from positive side.
All that "diesel publicity" in US makes those car selling used very cheap.
Although I am "mpg freak", I also like spirited driving and when smaller engines deliver better mpg, they also deliver less HP.
Meaning I might not like the 40 mpg car over my present 35 mpg rocket.
On the other hand, if you think about buying new, European delivery should have more options and I think going for "free" vacations to Europe is great opportunity.

That leads me to a follow-up question. How do you own a W211 Bluetec 4matic Wagon in the states? They were never sold here. I assumed you brought down a used canadian one when moving at some point, or do you have a method for getting these things over here? If so, I'd love some insight on how to get a final year W212 OM642 Bluetec with the 9g-tronic and 265HP version of the engine over here...

The importing laws in US are extremely tricky.
Just couple months ago I spend several hr checking if I can bring diesel Smart from Canada.
It seem doable, but dealing with 3 government agencies, where none will give you straight answers can be scary.
Coming to European delivery, this should be easy to check.
If the dealer takes the order, you are good to go. I am under the impression that new Bluetec pass Federal smog requirements, what is the main point.
Even 5 states in US adopted CA smog requirements, any USED "federal" car can be registered there.
European delivery brings used car to USA and that is whole deal.
We do have member who drives W210 diesel wagon in USA -imported from Japan.

Importing diesel wagon from Europe flies in my head for years, especially when I see them sold in UK for less than $2000.
But I have family in Poland, where those are harder to get with low mileage, while UK model have steering wheel on wrong side.
You still can drive RH car in USA, but I am too lazy to make all the arrangements.
Still somebody could do good business on it, like private Smart import to USA
