1982 240D shattering radiator fan

So last week the plastic fan that is attached to my engine that faces my radiator shredded off its mount and cut about a two inch hole in my radiator. Today I put in a new fan and radiator. I drove my car for about 20 minutes and lost three out of the five fan blades. Luckily I did not loose the radiator this time, but one blade did manage to bounce up and put a small dent into my hood and chip a small bit of paint off. I really cannot figure out what is going on. The only thing I can think of is that my engine may be shaking to much and sending the fan into the guard in front of the radiator. But I really don't know. Any ideas?

When braking , I have had a fan touch the radiator because of worn out engine mounts.

I would check the fans bearings for wear & runout.

I guess you would hear the blades rubbing?
Could it be that 35 years old plastic become brittle and centrifugal force at higher speeds breaks the blades?
I am pretty sure W124 had metal blades, so plastic on older W123 make me wonder.
