Swap chip
Ok, I will give a better explanation. There is a board which link to the brown connector. It's inside the steering wheel. When you swap that board from your old steering to the new ones, everything will work including horn. Hope that help whoever doing the project.

Does anyone have an explanation of how to swap the board over, before I disassemble two completely good steering wheels
Pictures would be GREAT, as I assume the board from a 2010 wheel will not fit nicely into a 2012+ wheel, the dimensions are totally different

E350 CDI Coupe W207
Good morning all,
I'm new on this forum and have a question regarding the steering wheel swap.
My car is a E350 CDI Executive Coupe black with 18" AMG Wheels
My question is the following:
I plan to swap my steering wheel from the actual without shift paddles to the new one with shift paddles.
I'm just wondering if the shift paddles would work or if I have to buy or do something to make it work?
Many thanks for your help.

Thanks for your reply.
I didn't tried to remove the SteerWheel in order to check if the connectors are available as "factory pre-installed"
I have two questions:
1 - Does anyone has already the answer for the "factory pre-installaed"?
2 - What should I do to make it works as you Dav?
Peace!

E class steering wheel swap.
Hi I'm fairly new to the forum and I've been following this thread with anticipation of changing my black steering wheel from my 2011 A207 220 cdi to a 2012 chrome surround with red stitching taken from a A250 2012 model bought from EBay with matching airbag. Also bought from EBay new. With not having access to a T30 torqx key and an apprehension of doing it myself I took it to Mercedes franchise . All went well until they tried the steering wheel commands and then no communication between the wheel and the commands. They informed me that the software was not compatible between the two. Yet after consulting with a couple of Merc technicians they said there should be no problem. So at the moment I'm stuck in the middle of the deep blue sea not knowing which way to turn.
Please any help to resolve my problem would be truly grateful. Thanks in advance.

Yes, buy a new contact plate for models prior June 2012. Your new steering wheel came with new plate. If you need one let me know, I think I have something. Send me photo of steering wheel , your VIN number , and serial number on steering wheel ( can take a photo of it )

I'd appreciate it if you could get it for me how do I go about contacting you

It's located inside steering wheel on 4 screws as I remember , just beyond the airbag. If you want one drop me details I asked you and delivery address, so I can give you a quote.

I just had mine sorted
There is a chip inside the old wheel. Like a small circuit board. You need to fit that in the new wheel with the help of an electrician. I did it with the help of a guy that worked at Mercedes and was also an electrician. The board will not fit correctly so it will need to be cut but don't do it yourself.
I'll send details later today
