you are the best dkchips, this makes it easy my head was spinning about black on black vs steel grey. clearly steel grey is a better choice. ok this has got to be the dumbest question ever - would the ladies like steel grey on ash over black on black?

steel Gray with ash/black is classy

John

Steel gray with ash interior is the way to go

There are so many black on black Mercedes specially in Houston Dallas and Southern California that a steel gray with an ash interior remember it has black highlights it's really a striking combination

I suggest you tint the windows 30% side and rear and the tinting will help really give it a very stealth look you know something John you'll thank me that you go with the steel gray car and you won't regret not having black your car will stand out more with the steel gray and ash interior as their are fewer if these cars out there than black but again the ultimate decision comes down to what you want all I did was provide you some very important points for consideration so good luck

2010 S550 CPO'D IN SHOP EVERY WEEK

For those touting CPO see below: the price premium paid for CPO guarantees you very little. this is a post from another section on this site.

2010 S550 CPO'D IN SHOP EVERY WEEK I recently traded in my 2007 S550 for a 2010 S550. Theres definitely a night/day difference. But its in the shop every week. I contacted MB Corporate every time I had to bring it in.
1) Front strut
2) front heated seat didn't work on the bottom
3) Rear strut
4) Smoking radiator (couldn't duplicate in shop still not fixed)
5) Rear strut again!
6) Puddle of windshield washer fluid under car can't find leak
7) Transmission slamming from second to first

Im sure if I had more time I can come up with a few more issues.

Funny that the 2011 black on black with 42k miles that went for $37k sold faster than the steel gray.

This was from another poster on the site, miles not indicated. Just proves the point that CPO is no guarantee. If you get a low mileage car no more then two or three years old with factory warranty, then you are as about as good as you can get.
Black on black is the most popular which is why they typically do not last long on the lot.

Then there are new cars that have serious problems as this forum is full of stories of new SS550's , E350's and more that have transmissions replaced or even bought back by Mercedes.

CPO is not an absolute 100% guarantee of a perfect car but for me buying my CPO's was insurance for the extended warranty.

With the OP buying a non CPO - even if it was low mileage and had a year left on the warranty there still is the absence of the extended warranty with unlimited miles, 2 free services, 2 payment rebate and it done right - the CPO certification and all that should come with it.

Your assumption on CPO is really not valid based on the 1 quote you provided.
All potential purchase decisions as to go with CPO or non CPO needs to take into consideration all of the above and in some instances it might be better to go with the non CPO if the incentives on the CPO do not add up to significant savings,

Thanks so much for your advice so far Dsurr and dkchips, I found one that I'm going to pull the trigger on and I need your honest, analytic and no holds barred opinion again!

Here's the one:

http://www.porscheaustin.com/used/Me...facc8e184d.htm

It's from a Porche dealership! The sales consultant said they had it fully inspected by the mercedes benz dealership and everything checked out fine. It's still under bumper-to-bumper warranty. I really like the color and it's a 2012!

Granted they don't have the $1200 credit, the 2 year prepaid maintenance and the unlimited miles warranty but I'm not going to drive that much and will drive this baby for pleasure on weekends only. This seems to be a better deal than the steel gray coupe which is still going for $38k.

It has one service record showing a brake flush and a “B” service with oil change in October 2013.

Here's another car I'm looking at... I think it looks pretty sick with those rims!
Anyone knows what those rims are and whether it's better than the AMG rims? Also, how much does it cost to get one of those including installation!

John,

Go with the 2012 E350 - it's been on the lot for over 90 days - offer $33,900 - then you can buy extended warranty from any Mercedes dealer since it's still under warranty - the 2011 E550 has the older v8 engine - many more miles and will cost a lot for service - you're better off with the new V6 - [I] have that engine in my wife's E350 coupe

You should also still look around for a 2011 or 2012 E Coupe CPO - just sit down and add up the incentives -
The $1200 - credit for 2 payments
The $2,500 extended warranty
The 1,100 in services

The value here is $4,800 - so if you absolutely have to have the black 2012 then make that offer - start at $33,900 - don't go over $34,900 and the dealer should be able to get you 1.99% financing -

be smart - look at the long term - having the extra year of warranty and unlimited miles is a bonus and if you decide to sell or trade up in 2 or so years the warranty is transferable to the new owner making your car a better buy.

I agree with dkchips on the 2012 model. I have been looking at the prices for these cars for some time and while you should always negotiate, I don't think you will get a 2012 with low miles for less than $37,000. More likely, $38,000.
