New to the 550 club
Been lurking around here for a while, picked up my 2011 E500 Sport 3 weeks ago. Have not stopped grinning since
These cars are ultra rare where I live in Malaysia. Mine is one of the last NA cars built, with full specification, imported from England with only 11k miles. Ditched the original wheels for a set of OEM C63 AMG Styling 6. I think they silhouette nicely against the dark colored body
Hope you like it !

Bought 4 pcs of 10mm spacers yesterday, waiting for my wheel bolts to be cut to length. I found out the rear bolts need to be no more than 37mm (thread length) or they will hit the handbrake assembly.
The rear looked rather tucked in with it's ET54 offset, albeit a 9mm wheel width. Spacing the rear wheel out 10mm should improve the stance. Not too sure if the front will look better with the wheels spaced out, but I'll give it a try anyway.
There's also a pair of brand new W204 C63 mufflers at my local garage, cancelled order, tempting ......... hmmmmmm

Had my custom X-pipe fabricated today, and whilst at it, I test fitted a pair of custom rear boxes that were lying around the garage just for the heck of it
The X-pipe definitely improves exhaust scavenging. Engine pulls stronger especially in the mid end. I will keep the primary and secondary cats to preserve back pressure as from my previous experience with my old CLK55, cat delete resulted in the engine losing low end torque.
I am still deciding whether to take the plunge with the C63 mufflers

It's Good Friday and it's sometimes not good to resist ! ........
Picked up my C63 exhaust today ....... It's brand spanking new and got it at dealer's cost plus a couple of cold beers.
Had a long chat to my exhaust fitter and he reckons the original C63 resonator is what that gives the AMG cars that characteristic exhaust bark (well a 0.8L additional displacement does help too), but he bypassed a few E63s centre resonator with x-pipe and the cars lost some of the crackly bark albeit getting a much deeper rumble. Comparing the stock C63 exhaust system, it's pretty similar to that on the E550, short tube headers - primary cats - secondary cats - resonator - mufflers. He recommends that I kept the C63 resonator and not bothered with an X-pipe.
Investigating further, the C63 centre resonator is very different from that of the stock E550. E550 centre resonator is essentially a straight through full length perforated muffler. The C63 centre resonator is actually a hybrid H-Pipe ! Only a short segment is perforated. It'll be very interesting to hear the outcome.
Now that I have quads, need to start searching for a diffuser to match

Very interesting !
Corvettes have the same restrictor across their centre 'H-pipes' ....... and it's this restrictor that creates the high pitch popping noise.

Just picked up my car with the C63 exhausts + resonator and replica Piecha diffuser fitted ..... WOW! What an exhaust ! Sounds like thunder on the gas and as quiet as stock during cruising. Tried the mufflers with centre X-pipe and I find the tone too scattered to my liking, a bit on the 'tractor' side; with the original C63 resonator in place, it made the exhaust note a lot more solid without losing much of the classic C63 'pop' lifting off the gas. Looking forward to the first cold start tomorrow morning !
Sorry for the crappy photo, car is filthy and it still would't stop raining here !

Must say my previous set up with the custom rear boxes and X-pipe produced better low to mid end, but the noise from this C63 set up ....... .......

Plastidipped my rear diffuser today, looks a lot cleaner. Subtle contrast but pretty effective
That's all done for now. Next project will be a front end facelift to the 2014 model.
