2012 e550 both resonator delete
Just an update. I have deleted the small resonators, replaced them with a magnaflow X pipe (2.5"). The larger resonator was also deleted and straight pipes were installed. Cost was $70.
The car has a slight rumble at idle and no rasp up top. I can feel the car pulling harder at the top end. Its a very smooth exhaust note, with no X pipe it would have been louder, but was afraid of drone or rasp. I can also hear the turbos more. Great mod, no drone car should have come this way!

Thanks for sharing as I really want to do this too. By small resonators, do you mean secondary cats? And also do you feel a loss in torque by doing so? Is there any chance you can post a vid?

Should definitely be some downlow and high end power increases since you decreased the turbo back pressure. Got any videos? Sounds to me like it would be pretty loud.

Exhaust
The two smaller boxes in the exhaust are not cats but resonators. They are hollow and perforated. The x pipe did not make the car lose any low end and it picked up power on the top end. I am still wondering what the exhaust would sound like with straight pipes through both resonators. I will try to get a video up with my phone or a nice camera.

The exhaust note is actually very mild. That is due to the x pipe. I'm thinking the people that deleted the large resonator with a straight pipe has a louder tone. I can't tell due to different cameras making the exhaust sound funny.

Ya I already deleted my large resonators with straight pipe and not sure if I should replace the smaller ones with straight pipe or x pipe. A video would be great thanks!

I sure will. Wondering if you could put a video of your exhaust up too. Hopefully the camera does not distort too much or make the exhaust sound like a tractor lol. I am sure it sounds good in person.

Want to bring this thread back to life. Looking to do the resonator delete, but am definitely concerned about drone. Has anyone who has done this experienced a CEL because of this?

If you delete the first set of resonators with straight pipe no drone and has a nice sound with low end, up top it sounds like stock. Delete both sets and add an x pipe you get a tad more noise at low end and at the top end you can hear more from the exhaust. With either configuration no CEL!

Hi Zulumerc,
I have replaced the big resonator with straight pipes, it sounds good but I want more exhaust notes and bit louder. So I'm planing to replaces the two small boxes with magnaflow 2.5" Xpipe, just wondering how was the Xpipe fitment? And is the sound increase noticeable ?,

hi
i did this on a e550 bi turbo the turbos quiet the exhaust note tremendously. When i replaced the smaller resonators up front with an x and straight piped the big resonator there was no rasp and you could hear the exhaust more when you floor it.

Thank you for the fast reply! Do you know anything about high-flow cats? I think I'm going to get the Xpipe first.
