Break Dust

I've been pleasantly surprised at how little break dust accumulates on my E350 cab. I looked quickly but didn't see an answer thread. Can someone till me, is it because of a shield? Are they ceramic?

have you owned the car from new? otherwise previous owner may have changed to ceramic pads. MY C207 on the other hand is a brake dust factory compared to my W212 or even my AMG. its a PITA to clean! so, consider yourself lucky!

I use an alloy wheel sealant and it's amazing how little the dust sticks to the wheels, even the stuff that does comes off very easily with a jet washer. Every year my wheels come off the car, they get a really good clean then polished with car body polish, then a coating of the wheel sealer, takes a couple of hours just for the wheels but it saves more than that in future cleaning👍

That's a good question. I'm the second owner, but the car only has 4,000 miles. So I'm thinking they're OEM's. When they get changed, I'll have to remember to have them replace with the same kind. I guess I am - very lucky.

I use poorboys wheels sealant, it's not expensive at all and really does do the job. Smells nice too

Lucky in the sense that you bought a 2012 model. C207's and some other MB models prior to that were indeed "brake dust factories" as another poster above said.

My old CLK320's alloy wheels were literally black after only a few days driving. The first thing that amazed me after purchasing my new 2012 E350C was how incredibly clean all four wheels remained after even extended driving periods.

IIRC, Mercedes began using different brake materials in some models in 2012, including the C207's. Perhaps one of the techies here can elaborate.

If you replace with the same type parts when it comes time, you should continue to enjoy the absence of excessive brake dust build-up.

Exactly, I've had some BMW's in the past (sigh). I can't get over how brake dust free these rims (even the insides) stay.

That's true. The only time the interior need a special cleaning here is after driving in poor weather - and it's basically normal road grime when the highway is wet.

I can't swear this absence of brake dust is valid for all wheel styles, but it certainly is with the OEM AMG Sport Package 18" wheels most of these cars were shipped with, as in the picture in post #2 here:

BTW, welcome to the forum. Lots of good, helpful people both here and over in the W212 thread.
