Thumbs up OE Tuning for 2012 E550 Coupe

All I can say is WOW!

Just had an OE Tuning ECU tune on my 2012 E550 Coupe today, done by IAP Racing in Sterling, VA. Dyno testing before and after attached.

Max Wheel Horsepower
Before: 369 HP
After: 430 HP

Max Wheel Torque
Before: 445 FT-LBS
After: 555 FT-LBS

http://www.iapracing.com
Outstanding experience with IAP Racing. Thanks Paul!

http://www.oetuning.com/products/mer...50-4-6-biturbo

Normal driving is the same as before but when you step on it - WOW! Definite increase in power/performance! I will provide more observations as I spend more time behind wheel.

Wish there was somewhere I could easily explore the removal of speed limiter. :-)

Also, removed the "Blue Efficiency" badges and the chrome side strips. Much better look. I will post more pics.

This tune is definitely recommended and very reasonable!!

Jesus! Am I seeing that right?! 110tq to the wheels?!

It does look a lot nicer without the blue efficiency badges, but it would look better with the v8biturbo badges now.

Started looking for V8biturbo badges. But I am liking the clean look so maybe I'll get magnetic backed badges!

The added torque is definitely felt especially at freeway speeds. Will post additional review after ECU has "learned" more and I get more spirited driving time.

Sounds better too! (I did resonator delete - https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-c...550-coupe.html)

So glad you posted this. I literally work right down Hwy 28 from these guys. Good to know someone local can do the tune.

The only gripe I have with this car. Step on the pedal and you can count to 3 before the power hits. Looking at the dyno sheet, it appears that is gone. Can you confirm?

Even while in Sport mode you have accelerator lag?

The throttle response is significantly quicker post tune (both in Normal and Sport Modes) - this is definitely one of the main benefits of this tune (although I did not experience the level of lag you mention pre-tune).

I need to get bigger tires soon as too much power for the OEM sized tires (on 18" AMG Wheels) I have now. Upgrading to 245/35/19 Fronts and 275/30/19 Rears by end of summer.

Paul at IAP Racing in Sterling will do you right, and is very knowledgeable on tuning of MB vehicles. Jeremy and BJ at OE Tuning are very responsive and helpful on any questions.

I will post more observations on this thread as it has only been 2 days since the tune but immediate observations:
  • Better Throttle Response in both Normal and Sport Modes
  • Significant increase in power (as validated in Dyno) especially Torque
  • Performance Increase (although this is mostly felt performance as haven't validated with actual timed tests - but oh what a feeling)

I am very satisfied with this tune from OE Tuning!

Thanks for the great write up Frank! I am glad you are enjoying the ECU tune and new performance. Paul and his team are great to work with and can supply same day install for anyone close to Sterling/NOVA area. The M278 responds amazingly after ECU tuning.

Do you guys work with anyone in the Houston (or within driving distance, ie. Dallas/Austin) area?

Motorwerks of Houston are the guys to talk to. Ask for Sunil when calling and he will take great care of you.

Very interested in hearing about your results should you go forward with that tune. Also, is your current color of your E Coupe still white? Same wheels as pic in your signature?

I'll definitely post about it should I go forward. I had inquired at the end of last year, but decided to postpone it. I really should have taken advantage of the sale they had going on!

As far as my car, it is white now with the Vossens on it.

Unfortunately, Sunil was not there, and they quoted me ~1600 bucks. So about $400 (1200 is the retail price of the tune I believe?) to do what amounts to taking out the ECU, sending it to OE, holding my car, and putting the ECU back in. Really now?

The guys at OE Tuning already sent me instructions on how to take my ECU out and send it in. I was hoping to have a place like ffr2014 that could do the bench flash on-site.

i've had my coupe tuned since 2013 by OE.. nothing but praise for their work.

Here in So Cal we have access to E85.

I have been adding 2 to 3 gallons of E85 per fill up since December 2014. No issues and car is too strong for 275/35/18 on 9.5 rims.

Adding 3 gallons raises octane rating to about 95 and will hardly affect your MPG. Also your intake temp would be slightly lower which is a benefit for summer heat.

Also, the throttle response is slightly improved and top end is very strong.

I have been adding 4 gallons to my C400 with piggy back tune by Burger Motorsports. (JB4). Same results.

just passing along.. and please do your research about E30

I've worked all over town over the years. Currently I'm working in the Greenway area. Even then, I'm just communting to and from Pearland. I do love seeing other E coupes out there.

4 Months later and still loving the performance increase of my ECU tune.

One thing I've noticed however is the very slight increase in running engine temperature. As it is very slight and no where near temps that seem too hot I suppose this has / will have little or no impact on performance or reliability / longevity.

Has anyone with a tune noticed this? I have no other engine modifications. Resonator delete was done several months before tune and had no impact on engine temp.

My ecu should be arriving at OE today and so I hope to get it back midweek. I'll see if I notice anything.
