Newbie needs advice on 2012+ E550 Cab

Morning!

Been researching convertibles you can put 4 real sized people into comfortably... the 911 and Jag where nice, but not really a 4 seater ...
Wife just didn't like the bentley or the bmw... and she threatened bodily harm if i pulled into the Volvo dealer last week

We've test driven most of these types of cars regardless of where they are made and we've come down to the E550 Cab, Drove a E350 and E550 this week, both where comfortable but the E550 was fast with a nice sound to it, Surprisingly FAST!

Has anybody put together a list of things to look for when shopping for one of these ?

I did a few google searches and really didn't find any weak spots ?

How good are the Ventilated Seats ? We live in Florida and the scarf thing was nice, but not sure if I had the vented seats on or not ? are they just "vented" or does A/C actually go thru the seat ?

Is there any real advantage to going 2014+ other than the body changes ?

Any options you didn't get that know you wish you had ?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Yes it is!

Very Good: we live in HI and they are more than adequate. Yes: A/C actually goes thru the seat

Not in my opinion and would avoid the 2015+ because of smaller brakes.

Any options you didn't get that know you wish you had ? No

The only change was replacing the OEM grill with an aftermarket single bar grill: massively improved the look.. much sportier!
Many compliments received!

Correct: no problems....well maybe
the rear tires wear quickly because of the engine's power

None, except the monkey that lives in the trunk

Have two E550 cabs and they are awesome cars. You can fit real sized people in the back seat but:

1. The front seats need to move a good amount forward and

2. With four people in the car a trip more than one or two hours is going to get people feeling cramped and aching

Also what I love is the truck room left when the top is down. Good amount of room for luggage or even two sets of golf clubs! Granted smallish golf bags carefully packed.

No problems with either car so far.

I've got a black interior and never really thought the seats were too warm. Even on 90F days, with the AC on the seats vents on full blast, the car was comfortable with the top down. If the sun was just too strong, no issue at all with the top up.

Porsche makes a great cooled seat, with real cold air blown out of the seat. You won't be uncomfortable in the Benz though.

You will love this car with the V8.

I bought a 2012 E550 cab three months ago. It had ~48k on it so I picked up a MB ELW from one of the dealers on this site. I have put 4500 miles on it so far and I have really enjoyed it. Great mpg also. Drives like it's new. Back seat in the E550 fits my tall teens just fine. As I have mentioned on this site before, the E550 is just as fast as my 430HP LS3 Corvette, and the E is a lot nicer to drive. Once you find the right one, I think you will enjoy it.

I could not find any inherent problems with the E550 when I did my research. The only thing that came up was the airmatic suspension issues, but that is only on the sedans. One thing I also look for in a used Merc is service records. Carfax will often show you if a vehicle was serviced at proper intervals at a MB dealership.

I have a 2013 e350 cab and the seats are ventilated not AC. You will also notice a lot of posts here complaining that you cannot really feel the ventilation. I agree with that. Absolutely no problems with the car, however.

That was my choice as well, a 2012 E550 'vert vs. 2013 E350C (what was in stock, needed a car asap!). I really wanted the V8 again but I went for the '13 as it was newer, cheaper and had every option available Premium 2 plus the gas mileage much better. I've always had convertibles but a recent accident has me gun shy possibly forever.

Don't worry about adults fitting, they certainly will especially if you put the shorter folk like me in back Top down not even an issue. The back seat area is as sweet as the front they'll feel like they're in a private jet. Great design.

Ventilated seats work but the effect is subtle and long term. I'd rather have than not as it's plenty humid and sweaty over here haha. They're little turbo computer fans in the seat and you can hear them working if the music is low. Much better than the design in the new mustang for example. In that case it's like sitting on an ice chest and nothing for your back, which made me think a seat heater was on or something. It was uncomfortable and just doesn't work for me, I like MBZ's design much better.

GL I hope you get the 550 of your dreams!
