Treadwear rating does not necessarily relate to grip, it gives indication of how long the tread will last.
What size are the replacement tires? Is your tire setup square (i.e. all tires are same size) or staggered (rear tires are larger)?
Yes the TCS may be activating if the front tires are losing traction but definitely need more data here. When TCS is activating do you sense the rear losing grip (such as in a spin out)?

235-40-18 front with 4 year old Michelin Primacy MXM 4 (tread is still useable)
255-35-18 rear with new Yoko
Did not spin out. Just feel tail slipping a little.

Staggered setup so rotating front to back not possible. I'm not familiar with your new tires but I have heard of some new tires with coating/protectant on them which should wear off after a few miles of use. Maybe this is the issue which can be verified after a bit of time on tires.

Sounds like an issue with those tires. I'd take them back as sounds unsafe. Your tire dealer should be able to assist or replace.

Also, were the tires mounted correctly? Some tires need to be mounted with a specific side facing outside (away from car) like my Continental ExtremeContact DWS06. Some tires are also directional (mounted with direction of moving forward).

Mounted properly and correct tire pressure.
Could it be older/worn tire in the front doesn't have the same grip as the new tires in the rear causing it to slip at times?

Doesn't make sense if the rears are slipping/sliding. Problem is with the rear grip it appears.
