Mercedes 2018 E Coupe article

2018 Mercedes-Benz E class Coupe

http://www.vwboost.com/images/import...2b7bb2_o-1.jpg

"The first new E-Class model, the sedan, was presented at the Detroit Motor Show in January. The Estate will be next in mid-2016. And then we will come to the Coupe. This will be introduced in early 2017. The last model will be a convertible body style towards the end of 2017.

Mercedes-Benz E-class Coupe

There’s no hiding the fact that the E-Class Coupe carries the same styling cues, so much so, that you could easily mistake it for a C-Class or S-Class Coupe. The headlights and taillights have the biggest difference between this coupe and its sisters. Also the lines on the side and windows are different. Powertrains will be shared with the sedan and will include a range of four, six and eight cylinder units, headed by a reworked version of AMG’s twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 pushing out some 600-horses in the E63."

one can only hope that these "renderings" are close to reality ... and with the way the new C has taken most of its (re)design cues from the S, looks promising

For a "redesign," it really doesn't look that radically different on the outside. No more of a change than the "facelift" in 2014.

Inside is totally different, and, in general, looks pretty sharp - especially the models that have the light wood with the metal accent inlays on the dash and doors. However, I've got a small concern about how it will look in person. I've got a C300 loaner right now and, although it looks good in pictures, that huge console/dash curved piece in the middle is just too huge and dominates the cabin. It looks a little goofy. I hope the extra room in the E helps that.

I'm just hoping they maintain the nav/infotainment screen within the dash proper, as opposed to the "garman" stick-on/prop-up look of the new C Coupes. Otherwise, I'm off to BMW.

I am 100% sure it will look the same as the 4 door inside. So no need to get a crapy BMW..

" ... and a biturbo 3.0-liter V6 engine that develops 396 hp and 384 lb-ft of torque ...", which ... with the addition of the AMG derived 4Matic ... translates into an E43 model!!!!!

So no "true" AMG for the E-Coupe?

if you accept that the 'n'43 is nothing more than a re-naming of the C450 AMG Sedan ... the C43 in 2017 Coupe design coupled with the hp/torque figures matching what was recently introduced at the NY Auto Show in the guise of the E43 AMG ... I think you can see where my speculation comes from ... however .. I also 'think' there will be an E63 because it seems that 'base' 6 bangers have been replaced by turbo 4's, and this would make for consistency across the lines. jmho

Thanks for the information.
I hope the top-line model looks a little more aggressive than (what i assume is) the base model version in the pictures.
+1 for a decent AMG model.

Time will tell

I don't like the grille. My current 2015 looks better IMO. The inside definitely needs an overhaul. The other issue you have is they are now using economies of scale to up their profits... The 3.0L Bi-turbo V6 is a beast. That same motor is in every car, from a C-class AMG all the way up to the SL-400.

All you need is a tuning box to unleash the motors full power.

Problem you have though is owners are going to be PISSED when they spent $100k+ on an SL and some 20 something smokes them in a C-class.

Typically you pay to go fast... with Mercedes now you are paying for a badge and everyone is buying the damn cars now... exclusivity is gone since they opted to bring in low cost cars. That is why I traded my C-300 the first year I owned it, and bought the SLK-350. Benz is cheapening the brand, and I think that will bite them in the *** long term.

All the luxury / sport brands are going this route one way or another. Some faster (no pun intended) than others. Marketing departments in all these brands have latched onto the same idea. As for those that are truly performance centric in the $100K+ market of MB, I'm sure MB will still be a provide some differentiator in their high-end AMG line-up.

somehow I believe that those fortunately enough to afford $100K+ on an SL or anything comparable are as concerned about being "smoked" by a C-Class as they are a Ford Pinto ...

I guess you don't know too many owners that spend 100k+ on their car. The ones I know buying an AMG or a sports car at this price point are very much concerned with how fast it is.

I was at the local dealer getting my car serviced and I asked the service guy about the 2018 e coupe. He said he and others would be driving both the sedan and coupe at the end of may as part of a program mercedes has with it's dealers.

He said the coupe would be heavily disguised but this does mean the car is ready to go even though we won't get a look until the Jan auto show.

I think it looks like an evolutionary change and it won't make the existing coupe look old and defunct.
