Additional 12v supply in the cab area (C207 MY13)
Hi, I have a C207 MY13, and was wondering if there is an easy way to pick up a
12v power supply in the cab area so that I can hard wire a 12v supply to a TV
tuner unit which I intend to mount underneath one of the front seats?
Unfortunately there is only one power socket in the car in the coin holder \
ashtray. No 12v in the glovebox or boot and only USB and MMI in the centre
console. Ideally I wanted to avoid having to dismantle the centre console just
to run a cable from the accessory socket, as it looks like a devilish job to
remove it and previous experience tells me that they never go back together
particularly well. Any ideas anyone?
Back in the day, manufacturers would run the cable and just not fit the socket
but that doesn't appear to be the case any longer. I thought of piggybacking
from the drivers side fuse box, but mine only has 2 x 30Amp fuses which aren't (always)
live when the engine is running. Not sure what they are for but could be power
seats or airbags at a guess. All of the spare holders are unwired (I believe).
By the way, you may already know this but when I removed my Command NTG4.5 to
fit a VIM the second video cable was already fitted in to the Fakra socket
alongside the reversing camera. This means that you can feed composite video to
the screen without having to run your own feed. The 3.5mm MMI audio cable which
you connect in to the centre console also carries video on my car which is
brill.
Any help appreciated. Cheers

I have three 12v sockets. One as you say in the ashtray/coin holder, one in the glovebox and one in the rear ashtray by rear seats.

The rear seats have two cupholders and a blank panel and the glovebox has nothing in it other than cuts outs for a USB socket and a couple of air vents.
When I removed the glovebox to help fit the Video in Motion wiring, I could not see any wiring tails that might have been used should MB have decided to run the supply and just not fit the socket
It would be great if someone had some pics of where those fitted sockets run back to. I have not been able to find any posts on this unfortunately. Pics might be able to help me trace a similar route.
Would you know if all of those sockets are on the same feed, ie If the fuse is pulled do they all still work?

In an MB, I've not tapped into the main fuse box, but there may be an empty fuse socket you can use for power or try an add-a-fuse to an existing switched fuse.
Used this method on other makes and it worked well.
Running the power to the cabin is pretty simple.
