Help please. Gears

Hi I have a E350 2012 covertible. 50km on the clock.

last week I woke up got in my car and tried to select D. And The gear level would not select any gear. I noticed the little red led light was not lit up.
after 10 mins the light appeared and car drove. The same thing has been happening everyday since.

when the car actually moves it drives perfectly.

Does anyone one have any idea what the problem is?
It has been to a garage they said they had fixed the problem but obviously not.

It's typically not the transmission. Here are the most common causes:
Defective Brake Light Switch
Low Voltage or Dead Battery
Spilled Liquid on the shifter assembly
Defective shift interlock solenoid
Faulty Engine Control Unit (ECU) or Transmission Control Unit (TCU)

Hi pennetta

i noticed last night that the red light flickered.
wheb I opened up the gear level case I could feel electrical pulsing.

do u still think it could be a brake switch? Or something more serious?

I take it that an Ecu and TCU are very expensive repairs?
