Confirmation of what I had alluded to in another thread:

So I can just put an AMG badge on my E550 and drop a zero to be E55 yes? Same thing they are doing. In my opinion the E43 sedan and C43 are lame as they are not styled and equipped like their true AMG siblings.

Pretty much sounds like it. Seems the emphasis is on sticking the AMG badge everywhere they can to justify a steep mark-up in price for what really aren't what we would consider true AMG vehicles. Marketing at it's finest...NOT!

My understanding is that these AMG "50" models are being released partly to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the E model range. Now, if you were talking about de-badging a 318 Bimmer and slapping an "M" emblem on the car, I'd tend to agree with you. I would also want to think, yet I have absolutely no way of knowing, that the way the AMG "43" series of rebadged 450's have been received and criticized for the very point you're making might be playing into this decision. The proof I guess will be whether or not the 'hand-signed' engine plaque appears when these cars go into production ... probably sometime after Jan '18. If not, then your thoughts might be considered to be valid. jmho
