Is the factory service manual really this bad??
I've got a 1984 300d with the OM617.
I recently purchased a Service Manual CD-ROM from Mercedes Benz in hopes of testing/troubleshooting my vacuum system. To my large disappointment it seems like the factory service manual is completely useless. There is no section that I can find that has anything remotely related to the vacuum system of the OM617. Can someone please enlighten me? Thanks!

Charles,
Do you have the paper or CD-ROM version? I have the CD. If you look under Main function group, "80 Central Locking System", you will find a lot to read through for the vacuum system. Yes, the manuals can be difficult to interpret, and the pictures aren't the greatest.
For easier reading and video tips, I suggest purchasing one of Kent's manuals on Mercedessource.com. Kent also has many videos on YouTube.
I have the same vehicle as yours. I know where you're coming from.
