Help needed please!

I have a mercedes 1980 w123 280e petrol saloon. Car starts fine and runs normally for a short time, then after driving a short while will all of a sudden start to choke as if it's about to stall, I lift off the accelerator and it stays idling roughly, go to touch the accelerator and it again has no power to pull the car, along with bad engine vibration. If I turn off the ignition it will always restart, but has the same problem for a various length of time before I can get it to move again. Next day will start, drive and sound fine again, for a short while, then the process repeats.
Any thoughts on the cause would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a fuel filter problem, or possibly clogged catalytic converter.

recommend replacing all the fuel filters. Not sure how many on on a gasser, but my 300d has 3- 2 in the engine compartment and one in the tank.
