1982 380SE 126 Series

Merc 380SE 126 series 1982 wont start.Drove car-running perfectly.Switched off engine and one hour later would not start.Engine turns but wont fire.Checked rotor(replaced)Dist cap, fuel(strong smell of fuel in engine)fitted spark distributor(no difference)compression OK,has spark at plugs.Car has been at dealer for three weeks and they are unable to help.HELP!!!!!!
