transmission advice neede

My father has a 280e w123 which is set down for 5 years because of transmission problem. It have no rear gear and setting the lever to R position causes the vehicle run forward!!! There is no local repair. Body, interior and engine are in excellent condition. I need help for repairing or locating the problem for finding the failed part.

First of all hello to you second of all if you want advice try elaborating a bit on your problem. You don't even mention if its an auto or manual which in my eyes seems important. You also don't mention if the other gears or drive function works flawless or not.

That said i assume you are having a automatic in that case i cannot help you since i don't know much about automatic transmissions I hope that you search a bit more information. Since most of us never had much spoonfed and there are little active members here you can't expect a direct answer.

I wish you good luck and please let us know what the problem was.

Kind regards, mercedes w123

Thanks

Thank you for reply
Yes, my tranny is auto, probably series 722.3. It is engaged in front drive even in N position.

Seems to me like something is wrong in the communication between your tranny and your lever if you put it in N and stays engaged in drive your lever doesn't have any use. I would start looking there.

Putting the lever in park position halts the car but it seems again the engine is engaged
