90k service cost

Can anyone pass on their comments on the cost of the 90,000 service? I understand spark plugs need replacing but read somewhere that the ignition coils need to be replaced, true? I thought they never wore out. Also, is it likely that the wiring harness will come apart? I'm specifically talking about my 1993 CE for the wiring harness.
Thanks,
kurt

I like Whats the difference between normal 300ce and Sportline? Is it just a trim package, or do they tweak some performance aspects? Also, how do you enjoy your CE?

W124's
The Sportline was a optional package for the W124 and W201. This included Sport Seating, wider low-profile wheels and tires, quick ratio steering, lowered ride height and a specially tuned suspension.

Hmmm... sounds like it makes the CE more fun to drive.. I was thinking of lowering springs from eibach and seeing if my dad (mechanic) could tighten my steering a little... Shame the sportline kit wasnt on my car :C

Sportlines also had a smaller diameter steering wheel.

ugh, the money that I could put into my car.... If I got any wheel, it would be the newer style one with the paddle shifters, but that would be mated to the tiptronic 6spd auto (i live in hilly area, dont feel like messing with full-manual daily) with a different/tweaked engine and the list goes on & on... Sadly, I cant afford a single item that I have mentioned thus far oh well

Fair enough....

Look at your wiring harness. If it looks like rats have been eating the insulation, then you'll need to have it replaced. From '93-'95 MB used biodegradeable insulation on their harness.
You can buy the harness and DIY for anywhere from $700-$1000 depending on how smart a shopper you are. Paying to have this done has been reported at $1500-$2500.

Plugs and plug wires, DIY, are around $150 for everything. Very simple job, just watch out for the wiring harness.

I've never read/heard about the coils going bad as a general rule.

Sorry for participating in the previous hijacking....

Sorry too :C I believe my car was victim to a faulty wiring harness/distributing cap which my dad replaced last year. He didnt tell me the cost, but the told me it was a good chunk of what he paid for the car. Does your car idle rough and feel like some of the cylinders arent firing? Thats what signaled the demise of my wiring harness/cap...

it's the wiring that runs between the ecu and the coils/other electrical parts if the engine. a big chunk of it runs inside the plastic above the fuel rail.

Try searching this forum and others like mercedesshop and you'll find piles of info.

love the sportline opt

I really like the sportline option...it's more than a badge and a special emblem on the shifter. Plus the seats are from the 500E. I just wish I had more places to go!
My wiring harness "looks" to be in perfect condition, I certainly won't touch it! Any comments on getting through the tuneup and not bothering it so as not to have it flake off? I'm hoping the tuneup can be completed w/o replacement.
I agree w/ the cost of the harness...$700-1,000, however it is barely a 2 hr job to replace. Saw a DIY description and he simply laid the new one next to the old one and unplugged and plugged.
Cost of a tuneup?
