Wagon Chat - Advice/Pics/Kick the Can/Whatever...
....the quest contiunes....
I went and looked at my 3rd W124 wagon this weekend. It was a '95 (Black with light beige MB tex) and was nice compared to the '93 and '91 wagons I've looked at recently. It should be....the asking price was $7900 compared with the $3200 and $2995 of the previous two.
Slightly damp carpet in the rear signaled moisture intrusion through the rear quarter glass....sure enough, there was some "goop" around the windows....an attempted fix. For a car with 198K on the clock, the interior was really very nice (brand new floor mats helped that impression too lol). No evidence of accidents, but the usual scratches and even a small dent on the hood. A/C worked. The car started and idled okay, but the CEL is on and the a/c does not blow out the center vents.
I opted not to test drive the car at this stage. I'm trying to decide what the expense of the (albiet minor) cosmetic fixes (I figure $1000-1500) would be plus my mind is having a hard time getting wrapped around the mileage. Under the hood, I noticed some seepage on one or two hoses and it needed a new hood pad. This is all before any consideration of what the car needs mechanically.
There is a car a few hundred miles away (same year and color combo) that has roughly half the mileage (106K) and asking price is a few hundred less. I'm going to call on that one today...

This way I had an inlet outlet tube on the same side like the existing muffler, but then have another pipe on the opposite end for the dual pipe look. I like it, and it sounds great. I had the shop bend some pipe and cut it to look like factor tips and I had them tuck it up as tight as possible for a stock/discrete look.

I have a cat-back flowmaster dual pipes. I had the shop remove the center muffler and then use a rear horizontally opposed single in dual out(both sides) muffler for the camaro/firebird

I spoke with one gent in Jacksonville, FL and one in Pittsburgh yesterday (7500 and 8000 respectively). So far, I'm not convinced I need to make a move on either one at this stage.
Plus, there's a new listing on ebay here in town (Silver w/ just 100K miles)....I'll contact the seller to arrange a viewing.
I do appreciate your help.

Agreed. I'm curious to see if it fetches over $10K.
Decided to get some local help on one of the out-of-town cars....we'll see if it comes back with a good report card. The additional photos the seller sent me last night were promising, but pics only show 60% of the story at best.

I just talked to the owner of a benz shop I used to work at in HS, he is liquidating his cars and old timer parts. He has a black'n'tan TE with a strong motor and a dying tranny that had $2500 in work, and he is asking $900. I think i'll pick it up and use it as a rally car/parts car if I can get it for $500.

Great minds think alike....I reached out to him earlier and Neil has graciously accepted my plea for his assistance by looking at the wagon in JAX tomorrow. If it passes his muster, a thorough PPI will get scheduled.
