Official W124 Drivers Running Gear Thread

Seeing as how these wheel size/suspension threads come up DAILY and people are too lazy to search/research on their own, let's post our OWN setups and give enough detail in the following format:

MODS, could you please sticky this thread in the W124 section?

ZorroAMG's setups he KNOWS fits:

Car- 1990 300E

Wheels - Carlsson 2/6 Brilliant Edition 2 piece
Offset - ET35
Size - 18x8 all around
Tire size - 215 40 18
Tire brand - Toyo T1R

Wheels - AMG Monoblock II's from a C36
Offset - ET35
Size - 17x7.5
Tire size - 215 45 17
Tire brand - Dunlop Graspic Winter tires

Ride height - LOW
Springs - Intrax
Shocks - Koni Red adjustables
Bump pads - unknown, thinking 1 bump all around

Rubbing/Scraping - None while driving, a TINY bit upon entering steep driveways from the left, none from the right. Must take speed bumps uber slowly at an extreme angle, towards the driver/left.

Fenders- Not rolled, not flared.

Copy/Paste and post YOUR setup!

Car- 1994 E220

Wheels - AMG Monoblock II's from a C36/43 (staggered)
Offset - ET35, ET30
Size - 17x7.5, 17x8.5
Tire size - 215 45 17, 235 40 17
Tire brand - Pirelli PZero

Ride height - LOW
Springs - H&R
Shocks - Bilstein Sports
Bump pads - None

Rubbing/Scraping - None at all, but I, too, have to take speed bumps at extreme angles. Actually my car is so low that it can't get in the multistorey carpark at where I live. So it's currently parked at the GF's country house

Fenders: Not rolled, not flared.

Are all W124 have the same width in the fenders, I know the 500e has wider flares. So these sizes will fit in all the coupes, sedans and wagons. Thanks for the info.

This thread is only useful if all pertinent information is included (i.e. fenders rolled or not, fender spacers used or not, camber correction used or not). If that information is left out, people will be falsely lead to believe that they can dramatically drop their car while running certain wheel/tire packages and have everything fit perfectly. We all know that simply is NOT the case.

does this appear to be so low because of the low profile tires? H&Rs dont slam that low do they?

ShanMan's setup he KNOWS fits:

Car- 1995 E420

Wheels - ADR cast one piece split spoke(5)
Offset - ET35 all around
Size - 17 x 8 all around
Tire size - 225 45 17 all around
Tire brand - BFGoodrich Sports

Ride height - LOWERED 1.50" - 1.75" (ish)
Springs - Vogtland Sport Suspension (proper V8)
Shocks - Bilstein Sports
Bump pads - STOCK (#4's?) all around

Rubbing/Scraping - As-Is (no fender mods): Rear's never rub. Front right rubs only slightly if too aggresive over chop or driveway entrances while turning. left side front has heavy outer edge rub (cut tire) when compressed while turning left (i.e. driveway entrances, square edged dips, etc.)

Immediate required fix: Rolled front fenders (doing all around) & AMG fender spacers. This should eliminate 95% or 100% of rubbing.

92 300TE 4Matic
92 300TE stock suspension/fenders

AMG 5 spoke (CL S fronts)
17"/7.5", ET 46mm (perfect)
225/45 Nitto NeoGen (all season)

No rubbing (and I "two track" my 4 matic a lot).
Handles better than stock wheels/tires.
A nice thing about these wheels is they stay clean by themselves.
Tires are good enough on snow and great in summer.

...update to my setup: I rolled the fenders this weekend using the Eastwood fender rolling tool, which worked great by the way. It reduced my rubbing by about 90%. Absollutely no rubbing when driving straight...even when I hit a bump or dip pretty agressively.

I will need to install the fender spacers to eliminate the last 10%, which is only a very slight rub if I go over a bump or through a dip while turning sharply left or right. The rub is low in the arch...where the top of the side panel meets the fender.

Reminder: I run 17 X 8 (ET35) with 225-45 R17's with the car lowered 1.75" on Vogtland springs (on stock pads) and Bilstein Sport shocks (all around).

ksing44's set-up

Car- 1995 E320 Special Edition
Azure Blue/Parchment/Burl walnut

Wheels - AMG Aero I
Offset - ET37
Size - 16" x 7.5" all around
Tire size - 205/55/16
Tire brand - Always Grand Touring All Season - Currently Michelin MXV4 Primacy

Use stock wheels in winter with performance snows.

Ride height - ~1.5" lower all around - enough for me
Springs - Eibach ProKit
Shocks - Bilstein HD
Bump pads - 1-bump front and 3-bump rear
K-MAC adjustable rear bushings for camber adjustment

Rubbing/Scraping - None ever of course, but still have to be careful with speed bumps
Fenders- Not rolled, not flared.

Ride is very comfortable and yet feels very stable and very confident when cornering
Would like some bigger swaybars, but just never got around to it.
I still may try the sportline bars, but will forego the hassle of trying for “sportline plus”, which is limo front with E500 rear.

How low it looks depends on the viewing angle.
In fact it doesn't even look lowered, unless you know how high the cars are with OEM springs.
It just doesn't look like a 4x4 anymore.
