Mercedes 1988 260E
1988 260e
My 1988 260E has 267,000 miles. Substantial replacements already done, but it still has starting, hesitation and stalling issues. When cold starting, RPM must be kept high to keep from stalling until motor warms up enough to stabilize. It's OK once on the road but sometimes stalls when rolling up to a stop light, or when slowing down to make a right hand turn. When leaving a stop light after full warm up, it stumbles. Full accelerator makes no difference and it has to be pumped in order to coax the motor to accelerate (while cars behind keep honking at me). I'd rather not get into the expense of a new air flow meter or a fuel distributor. Injectors were installed about 30,000 miles ago, various sensors changed, and new distriburtor wiring. Any suggestions out there would be greatly appreciated. I want to keep the car.

lots of cars
I would be mad at my mechanic for not knowing how to properly test my car.
Also, you should look at ebay as your source for cheap parts or the junk yard. There is really no point in buying new parts unless it's the fuel injectors or something like that. Check your OVP relay for the cold start problem. It may need to be replaced even if the fuse is in good condition. Other things to check is your cold start valve and I would replace the temp sensor ( not the green one). Has your O2 sensor been replaced and your fuel mixture adjusted?
Your EHA valve may be bad but your mechanic has to test it first.
What is the list of tests that have been done to the car?
