E320 Convertible
Hey All! I don't normally post in this section of the forums but I came across what I thought was an interesting find. After searching this part of the forum, I realized that these E-Class convert. do exist. I had no idea they did! So, what seems interesting and exciting to me, may be mundane to some of you folks, but what they hey, might as well post it anyways. I was on my way to work this morning when I got behind the Mercedes on a ramp. I'm in the West Chester PA area if anyone has ever heard of it. Here are a few pictures I took with my cell phone camera. Again, sorry if this is sorta everyday occurances for some of you.

Built in 1993 as a 300CE Cabriolet, and from 94-97 as an E320 ( 97 in Europe continuation of the A124 prior to the W208 CLK Cab debut )
Cost new between $75K - $85K and currently selling at bargain prices.
Definitely a collectors keeper and attention getter.
My wife drives this 94 E320 Cab and gets more attention and is rarer here then new Bentley convertibles !!!

PA PETE, nice find, like a needle in a haystack. I cannot remember the last one I've passed on the road.
Your victim appears to be using this car as a daily driver to work. I fart in their general direction.

2Phast, do you mean no more were built after 1995?
Seems there are a small stream of 96s and an occasional 1997 model year offered for sale in other countries.

Do Cabs wear both W124 and A124 designations accurately, with A124 being more specific?

Thanks! And yes, it does appear to be a daily driver, I mean, it was in great shape and very clean, but I wouldn't say immaculate. Still just weird to see an E-Class Convrt. like that.

The A124 designation does refer to the cab and the c124 refers to the coupe and W124 to the sedan and w124t to the wagon. I refer to the entire chassis line as W124 though, which may technically be incorrect.
Never the less, the above production data still applies. W210 chassis was introduced for model year 1996. Cabs were so expensive (double the price of a sedan), that it wasn't uncommon to see them still on the dealer showroom during the 1996 model year, giving the impression that they were still in production for 1996.

1995 E320 cabriolet
Brake lights
I've never seen brake lights on the top of the boot before. I wonder if this was
ever OEM or after market. Any thoughts?
I just had all the fluids changed on my 1995 E320 Cabrio today. Looks like everything was serviced and up to date. Even though i had to toss a good trans filter, oil filters and gas filter along the way, at least i have a new baseline to start service from.
It also looks like there was a new wiring harness installed in the car. Thats what the mechanic said anyhow.
Here is a pic of the harness, does this look like a replacement to you folks?

Actually that statement only applies to US spec vehicles, euro spec vehicles did not have the same 3rd brake light requirements. The euro spec cab never received a third brake light. I have seen several that have been imported and instead of the importer installing a US spec trunk w/brake light, they bolt on a brake light to the trunk lid to comply with the DOT and NHTSA rules for importation.
Given Cabriolad's reference to the trunk as a "boot" his location must be europe, so it does not suprise me that he hasn't seen the trunk mounted 3rd brake light on a cab

S124 built to June 1996
A124, C124 including the E36 variant were built into 1996, with some A124 to June 1997 as the "bridge" between the intro of the W208 Cab.
In fact the last W124 were built 7/97 in India.
Latest issue of UK mag "Mercedes Enthusiast" did a multi page article on the 124's
Ed A.
P.S.
Wasn't forum member "Coastline" importing a 1996 E36 Cab last year ?

This seems to disagree
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_W124
But this one seems to confirm your posting
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_W124
I find production dates to March of 1996, for select markets and only select models. If the data is correct, that would confirm MB continued the W124 chassis a little longer in some parts of the world and the A124 even longer.
This does not seem to apply to JDM or the US market from what I can find.
Thanks for posting that information and the clarification.

Anything can be done, as the 3rd brake light and all the wiring can be ordered, but then it would require some custom work to cut your trunk lid, plus a repaint. I suspect it might be less expensive to get a trunk lid with the light already in it and have it painted. Not sure where you would find one of these in europe though.
