The steering wheel is a regular Sportline wheel with the airbag delete insert, nothing special about those. On top of that is the AMG hornpad.

Problem is finding the AMG hornpad. The part number (on the back of the pad) does not show up in the EPC at all.

Give it a go, maybe you will have better luck.

Yes, the AMG cover is just that, a cover. There is no airbag

The pictures here show a regular euro Sportline wheel with the normal cover and without the cover. You can see the airbag delete filler insert.

None of the early cars had airbags with the AMG logo on them. This didn't happen till 1997 with the C36 (in the USA) and I believe 1996 with the E50 (Europe)

So i guess the AMG pre merger cars that were equipped with driver airbag kept the Mercedes-Benz steering wheels.

I was looking for an amg, airbagged upgrade...if thats the case i might just keep mu current one, or have one with zebrano wood inserts.

I have this one in my car...

That kind of depends upon which company built the AMG car. Most early cars I have seen have the aftermarket Momo wheel (built for AMG, no airbag). Or they just use the stock steering wheel/airbag setup or some sort of aftermarket wheel with stock airbag (Victor was a popular choice)

The AMG wheel/cover we have been discussing first appeared on the 1992 190e 3.2 AMG and the 300e 3.4 AMG.

Posting some known AMG built cars showing their steering wheels.

Rik

Most of the AMG North America cars used the Atiwe Silberfeile as picture in the below 1986-1987 brochure.

True, that was another wheel option for AMG cars.

We both know that there were no real boundaries to limit the desires of the premerger AMG buyer.
Anything was possible if they could afford the cost.
Interesting how much the local AMG market determined some of the rarer parts.
AMG Japan is the perfect example as they hung on much later then AMG North America producing some interesting late model 124's never seen in the USA.

okay.. so back to the "clunk" i used to hear from my rear suspension and suspected it was sls related. The car went to forum member and friend Jayrash so he can check it out and he found out that the sls is working find and the clunk was from the ASD pressure accumulator (picture attached, part number 124 553 00 10, or 124 350 49 57). Changed it with a used part that he found on some spare part shop. Clunk is gone!
He also adjusted the sls so the car sits a bit lower now.

Next on the list is the steering box (shows some play) and differential rebuild

So went to Lebanon and get some things done/repaired on my car.

First i got a new full exhaust (custom made) by using two 52mm pipes, empty muffler in the middle (the one under the front seats approx) and an E55 W210 rear muffler (oem).
The car sounds brutal, but the performance feels better, revs more freely now.
Note that the exhaust i removed wasnt the original mufflers, lets say it was messed up a bit. I guess i will later on add another muffler (before the last one) so the sound get less noisy on cruise.

Second was the audio system, changed all the speakers, used cadence ones for the front, perfect fit! The rears were no problem easy to change, but the ones in the front doors were a pain to change. We ended up doing custom braquets so i was able to fit 5.75" 3 way speakers in there. And i added a small subwoofer and a crossfire 4 channel amplifier. I am happy with the results, but i think i can do better with higher quality door components instead of the 3 ways speakers.

Wasnt able to find a quick ratio steering box so i left it as is for now. Also i am confused with the million part numbers those have. Someone said a C36 steering box will fit and it is a quick ratio one, but i couldnt verify if it was true nor i was able to find one.

The problem still persist with the ASD pressure accumulator, i will have to order an oem brand new one, i think it is around 200$ at parts.com part number 124 553 00 10.

The new problem is : misfiring.

I dont know what to do about misfiring anymore, it doesnt do it all the time, sometimes it is just a little misfire on low rpm, and sometimes (rarely) the car barely drives, misfiring on all the rpm range. I dont know if its related but i think it happens more frequently when the car is hot.

Note that 9 months ago i got a new oem EHA, rebuilded the fuel distributor, changed both pumps, all fuel filters, emptied and cleaned the fuel tank.
I checked everything and all is working properly...so i left it as is till my next trip.

Also the car sometimes goes really fast, and some other times it feels slow or lets say regular. Engine compression is fine.

any thoughts after this long post?

pictures will follow soon, showing the exhaust tips

Had a similar experience with a bad coil. Ran fine usually, sometimes at idle would drop down, and sometimes, pulling away from a light, would barely pick up. Usually, a few revs and some speed would seem to clear it back up. Slowly got worse/happened more often.

Great thread, love your car!

Thanks!

Prob is the car got the CIS M104, so no coil packs. Just wires, and speaking of which, i tested them with a voltmeter and they are fine.

mmm i didnt take a video of it! But I will ask my brother to take one, I should have done it myself.

I personnaly won't mind the loud exhaust, it have a nice note. But when you go for a drive on highway for 1h+ It does give a bit of a headache lol.

My tuned G35 with HKS exhaust was worst even!

You should still have the one single ignition coil, that is how my m104.980 has it.

Does it drone? Like, the exhaust note just stays the same at highway speeds? Or is it just too loud?

Drone...well to be honest i dont really know what "drone" exactly means, but the exhaust is loud specially lets say when i am going uphill 3000rpm and low speed. In this case the sound that goes inside the cabin may not be liked by some passengers.

I will take a little video and post it here (on idle and some free reving)

One of these things.

A droning noise is a noise that is consistent, and keeps going on and on. At highway speeds with the stock exhaust, we hear the engine and the transmission and the exhaust a bit, but it doesn't drone. It isn't unpleasant.

My friend's mustang GT drones at highway speed. You feel like you're going deaf if you're in it for too long.
