M104/M103 CIS fuel distributor rebuild process (pictures heavy)
I have once made this on my M103 300E and i was very pleased with the results. Note that a new head will cost a fortune and we never know the real condition of used ones so after a lot of research i found the part needed for the rebuild which is this one:
After i bought this part, which is basicly the only part that can go bad in a bosch fuel distributor, we took the dist off and dissassembled it. Cleaned all the filters inside (many of them) and the next day we putted everything back together with new o-rings seals.

Head Cleaning:
We then installed the distributor and fired the car...started from the first try. During my short period of driving it after that, i noticed a better idle, fuel economy and better performance.
Note that my car is a 3.4 AMG but this must be similar to all M104/M103 cars with CIS injection.
Its not an easy job and its not a tough one, but for me its totally worh it. Ive done this too on my M103 and the results were similar.

show them the picture of my old gasket maybe they will change their minds.
In the other side...if your car is running fine and you dont want to this delicate rebuild...then dont do it. As for me, i would do it in every car i can put my hands at

I'm very interested in your rebuild of the fuel distributor.
1. How long did it take?
2. What did you use to clean the interior? Acetone, whatever?
3. Do you have a list of parts that are worth replacing when you've got it disassembled?
I would love to do that at the same time as replacing/cleaning injectors and replacing seals and tubes etc.

3. Pretty much all the parts are available in the ebay listing i posted in a earlier post. IIRC there are some little fuel filters inside but those usually never go bad, and can be cleaned

1. I and the guy that helps me do this are getting used to it, so lets say now around 2 hours max. But hey, take your time, all the time available and don't rush since its delicate.

In fact, I've remembered that I have a fuel distributor from a dead 300TE 4-Matic and it make sense to practice on that. I might take it apart when I'm at home next weekend and see what's involved first hand.
Is it possible to get that gasket from MB? Is there a part number?
I understand there's a rubber/plastic seal under the fuel distributor that I should replace to avoid any air leaks. Is there a part number for that?

I've remembered something else! Our local garage tried my FD on my friend's 4-Matic (M103) and it ran fine in the workshop. That was what convinced my friend to replace it and I also have the good FD from the 4-Matic.

I dont have the part number for rubber part under the fuel distributor but yes it would be good to change it since its a source of vaccum leaks.

Hi guy's, just found this post and I am dealing with this issue now as well. I did find the rebuild kit on ebay as you suggested but believe this is beyond my level of mechanics. Are any of you near California?
I have not made any calls yet, but in your experiences, how receptive have mechanics been to rebuilding one?

I bought one of those kits off ebay and rebuilt mine with good results. The best rebuild writeup i have found is at www,ferrari400parts,com/kjetdownload,php (replace commas) the one u want to look at is the adjustable alloy fd rebuild instructions, and follow them to a t. Whatever you do, dont fool around with the per-cylinder adustment screws on the bottom!!!
