Running on a 12 Year Old battery??
Hey guys I bought a 1987 300d a month back or so and its been great thus far! The other day I noticed some "regurgitation" from the breather vent on the Interstate mtp-93 battery. I looked up the date code on it and it decodes to February of 2001! Is that possible? I've never heard of a battery lasting nearly that long. If it is indeed 12 years old, are there any hazards of running with such an old battery like under-voltage or something. Obviously there the risk of getting stuck somewhere when it inevitably dies.

Out Of Control!!
Go to the Interstate site and see if you can confirm-----if correct ask to do a testimonial you may get free lifetime battery replacement----remember it is cranking amps that starts cars not just having 12v!!!

I bought my E420 in 2002 and it still has the same Mercedes battery in it. That's 11 years ago and if it's the original that would make it 18 years old. I can't believe how they last.

NICE !!
Yes, a car battery can and does last that long... if the car is driven and the alternator/regulator do their jobs correctly...
My 500Es battery is 10 years old.

Ended up writing that testimonial a month or two after reading Plutoe's post. A month later I received a phone call from interstate, and while they sadly did not offer me free car batteries, they did request permission to feature the testimonial along with some photos of my 300d in their magazine. Pretty neat
